Andrew Luck is being billed as the greatest quarterback to come out of college since Peyton Manning. Some fans and media personal have argued for teams to "Suck for Luck," or to lose games so their team can be the worst in the nation and get the first NFL Draft pick. But is this really a good idea?

The Stanford Cardinal and Heisman Trophy Hopeful Andrew Luck lost their first game of the year this passed weekend versus the Oregon Ducks. Luck completed 27 of 41 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns, however, Luck also threw two costly interceptions. Luck and the Cardinal have played two big games this year, and Luck's performance was not good in either. In his other big game of the season versus the USC Trojans, Luck threw a pick six that gave USC the lead and nearly cost the Cardinal the game.

They say a candidate's performance in big games is extremely important for their run at a Heisman Trophy, and for a quarterback it is also important to win. Luck took a big hit this passed weekend, but did Andrew Luck lose the Heisman Trophy versus Oregon?

Peyton Manning is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, however, there is a debate on whether the Colts should draft Andrew Luck. Is that wise?

Andrew Luck of the Stanford Cardinal has led the Heisman Trophy race for the entire 2011 season, however, Trent Richardson from the Alabama Crimson Tide has been catching up with him amongst actual Heisman voters.

This weekend, the Crimson Tide will face one of the nation's most vaunting defenses in the LSU Tigers. If Richardson is able to have a big game and lead the Tide to victory, will he be able to steal the lead from Andrew Luck in the Heisman Trophy Race?

Each week, ESPN conducts a straw poll of Heisman Trophy voters to see who leads the race after each weekend of football. After week 13, Trent Richardson sits at the top, with Andrew Luck close behind. Robert Griffin III's (RG3) movement up the rankings has settled following a major surge after his week 12 performance versus the Oklahoma Sooners. RG3 finds himself currently in third place.

RG3 has a major advantage over Richardson and Luck heading into week 14. Luck and Richardson's seasons are over, but Griffin still has one more game to showcase his skills against the Texas Longhorns. Last impressions are very important in the Heisman Race

If RG3 has an amazing game against the Longhorns, can he catch Richardson and Luck since they aren't playing this week?

Through week 8 of the 2011 college football season, the Alabama Crimson Tide's Trent Richardson and the Stanford Cardinal's Andrew Luck seem to be separating themselves from the rest of the pack in the race for the Heisman Trophy

Luck started the season as the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, and he has not disappointed. Stanford is undefeated and contending for an opportunity to play for a National Championship. So far this season, he has accounted for the following statistics:

Andrew Luck 2011 Season Statistics - 145 pass completions; 202 pass attempts; 1888 passing yards; 71.8% completion percentage; 9.35 average yards per pass attempt; 62 yard long; 20 touchdowns; 3 interceptions; sacked 2 times; 180.0 QB rating

Richardson, on the other hand, began the season on the Heisman shortlist, and has climbed up the list. He is currently in second in ESPN's Heisman projections, but there is still plenty of football to play. So far this season, he has accounted for the following:

Trent Richardson 2011 Season Statistics - 132 rushing attempts; 912 yards rushing; 6.9 yard average per carry; 76 yard long; 15 touchdowns; 15 receptions; 179 yards receiving; 11.9 yard average per reception; 61 yard long; 1 touchdown

Through week 8, what do you think? Who leads the Heisman Race?

Trent Richardson vs Andrew Luck, who is the Heisman Front Runner?

Through the first eleven weeks of the 2011 college football season, the Stanford Cardinal's quarterback, Andrew Luck, dominated the Heisman Trophy race and discussion. However, following a close win to the USC Trojans and then losing the next week to the Oregon Ducks, Luck no longer leads in the race for the Heisman Trophy Award. Instead, the quarterback of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Brandon Weeden, is now considered the front-runner.

Weeden has led the Cowboys to an undefeated season thus far and has them currently ranked #2 in the BCS standings. Though he is currently the leader, he has not separated himself from the rest of the hopefuls. He does, however, still have to play the #5 Oklahoma Sooners. If the Cowboys beat the Sooners, then they are going to the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans, LA. One of the major, if not most important qualifications needed by a quarterback to win the award is to have his team in contention for the National Championship. The only thing that can stop the Cowboys from going to the BCS Title Game is if the Sooners beat them.

If Weeden is able to beat the Sooners and has a descent to good game will he win the Heisman Trophy Award?

After an amazing four touchdown and 479 yards passing game versus the Oklahoma Sooners, Robert Griffin III (RG3) launched himself back into the Heisman Trophy Race. Though he is currently ranked third in ESPN's straw poll of Heisman voters, he still has a great chance of jumping to the top of the list. Heisman voters and the media aren't dead set on any particular candidate so far, thus making it a fluid Heisman Race going into the last weekend of the regular season.

Griffin has an advantage over the current top two in the straw poll because he plays against the Texas Longhorns next weekend, while Trent Richardson and Andrew Luck are sitting at home because their season's are over.

If Griffin were to win the Heisman Trophy Award, would this play against Oklahoma be his Heisman Moment? It led to the Baylor Bears first win against the Oklahoma Sooners ever in history.

The USC Trojans quarterback, Matt Barkley, recently led his team over the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, OR. The win knocked the Ducks out of the BCS National Championship hunt. It also eliminated LaMichael James' chances of winning the Heisman Trophy Award

Barkley, however, has not regularly been in the Heisman Trophy discussion. The following are his season statistics:

Matt Barkley Season Statistics
  • Passing Statistics: 273 pass completions; 404 passing attempts; 3105 yards; 67.6 completion percentage; 7.69 yards per attempt, 82 yard long; 33 touchdowns; 7 interceptions
Barkley has his Trojans 9-2 with only one game left in the season. I think he should be a candidate. In my opinion, he is the best pocket-passer in the nation...yes, I believe he is better than Andrew Luck. However, what do you think?

Is Matt Barkley a Heisman Trophy Candidate?

I actually haven't changed my views from week one and would still give the trophy to RG3. Andrew Luck is probably leading in the national ratings and rankings, however, I feel RG3 was more electric and more special. Luck is the best NFL QB prospect based on his performance last year, but, in my opinion, RG3 has been the best college football player thus far this year.

I dropped Trent Richardson, LaMichael James, and Taylor Martinez. I just don't feel they have done anything worth being in my Top 7.
