College football analysts across the board are saying the Boise St Broncos must defeat the Oregon State Beavers with style and ease if they hope for a chance in the National Title. It is being reported they must win big and look pretty in all their games for them to get a shot. Do you agree with this analysis? Must Boise St win with style points in order to get a shot at the National Title?
We all know that the BCS computers, which are a third of the ranking process, use the strength of a team's schedule to calculate where a team should be ranked. Is the PAC-10 good enough, if we run the gauntlet, as a whole to put Oregon in the National Title game if Oklahoma and Auburn go undefeated?
If a team's true goals in a season are to play for and win a national title, then if a non-BCS team, such as Boise ST, is allowed to play for a National Title why should a team such as Alabama remain in a BCS conference? As it sits right now, Alabama has to play Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina, LSU, and Auburn this season. They also chose to play Penn State in an out-of-conference match-up earlier in the year. The rest of Alabama's schedule consists of current B level programs and bottom-feeders. Boise State, on the other hand, plays Virginia Tech and Oregon State (both teams already have 2 losses in only 4 games, and thus are currently B level programs at best). The rest of their schedule consists of lower B level programs and bottom-feeders. If Bama wants to routinely position itself to have the best chance of playing for a BCS National Title, then why the hell would they stay in the SEC? If Boise State is able to set the precedent of a non-BCS program qualifying for the BCS National Title, then shouldn't Bama leave the SEC for a conference such as the Sun Belt, for example? This poll isn't about the effects of teams actually doing this on College Football, which would absolutely destroy the greatest game in America--imagine a college football season with no AU vs UA or Texas vs Oklahoma, for example. It is about the ridiculousness of a non-BCS team being allowed to play for the BCS Championship. It doesn't even make sense on paper...doesn't the fact the name of the title includes the acronym BCS mean to qualify to compete for it, you must come from a BCS conference?
This video cracked me up so I had to share it. I may not have been caught on camera like this guy, but I was just as happy! War Damn Eagle! Were you as happy is that guy in the video when we won the BCS National Title?
The first BCS ranking are out. Oklahoma is #1, the Ducks #2, BSU #3, Auburn #4, and TCU #5. Oklahoma is a surprise number one and I personally don't think they should be there. My top 5 are ranked in the order the options for you're number 1 are in. I believe Auburn has had the hardest slate of games thus far and they deserve to be number 1. Auburn has defeated Clemson, Arkansas, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Mississippi State. My number 2 team is Oregon. They have a signature win over Stanford. Oklahoma gets the benefit of the doubt for playing in a BCS conference. Boise St is 4 and TCU 5 in my list because I don't believe the system was set up for non-AQ schools to get into the National title. I believe the national title is for teams that earn it through the season. Their schedules are just too easy. The majority of their opponents are non-BCS conference opponents. That's the explanation of my top 5. What's you're number 1 thus far this season?
One of Penn State's greatest teams will return to Beaver Stadium this season. Joe Paterno's 1986 undefeated, National Championship team will be reunited on Oct. 8 to be honored before the Nittany Lions' Big Ten opener against Iowa. The 2011 season marks the 25th anniversary of the Lions' 12-0 season, which culminated with a 14-10 victory over No. 1 Miami (Fla.) in the Fiesta Bowl. The 1986 team won the program's second and most recent National Title and produced four All-Americans. Linebacker Shane Conlan, tackle Chris Conlin, running back D.J. Dozier and defensive tackle Tim Johnson were each honored with All-American laurels. The team also produced a program record 13 picks in the 1987 NFL Draft. The 1986 squad was also just one of five undefeated teams in program history (1968, 1969, 1973, 1994).

I've been hard on Boise State recently. I've said on numerous occasions that they shouldn't be allowed in the National Title Conversation because of their weak schedule. While I do still stand by those words, I do confess I feel somewhat bad for them. They are no doubt an excellent team. They are #3 in the BCS poll right now and have dominated their opponents. Yet, they have to have football games on Tuesday night for anybody outside of Idaho to watch their games.I think Wrong. Do you Think It's Right?
Nick Saban just won his second BCS National Title as coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide, and has become the first coach to win three BCS National Titles having previously won one as head coach of the LSU Tigers in 2003. All three of his championship teams used the same formula: great recruiting classes, great defense, strong run game, and a quarterback that doesn't make mistakes. A great college football coach has to be good at coaching, game-planning, x's and o's, and recruiting. Saban is clearly brilliant at coaching as he has turned Alabama into an NFL warehouse. The recent BCS National Championship game exemplified his skill at game-planning as he caught LSU's defense by surprise by throwing the ball often on first down. He also had Bama's defense prepared for everything LSU did and they were able to hold them to only 92 yards of Total Offense and pitching the first shut out in BCS Title history. The fact he is great at game planning suggests he must be great at x's and o's. His top notch play-calling was also exemplified in the Title game. While Saban is definitely among the best in these three areas of college football coaching, what sets him apart is recruiting.Saban has proven he is one of the best, if not the best, recruiter in college football. Going into his sixth season at Alabama, he currently has the nation's #1 recruiting class. If he maintains this spot, it will make it his third #1 recruiting class since he has been head coach for the Tide and the fifth top five class. To win the SEC and BCS Title's, a coach absolutely must be able to recruit. As the saying goes, "you need your Jimmy's and Joe's to run your X's and O's to be successful," and Saban is definitely a tireless recruiter.
Everyone says defense wins championships, so can the Ducks do it with this group?
There are some really important games this weekend. I think it's hard to say which is the most important. Number 3 TCU takes on number 5 Utah, which will without a doubt shuffle the Top 5 in the BCS. One team will drop and the other has the potential to climb. Number 6 Alabama goes to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to play the number 10 LSU Tigers. Baton Rouge is a nasty place to have to go on the road and play. This game has National Title and SEC West Title implications on the line. If Bama wins, they are still in the hunt for both SEC West and the National title games. If they lose, they are out of both. If LSU wins out and the number 2 Auburn Tigers lose to both the Georgia Bulldogs and the number 6 Alabama Crimson Tide, then they could make the SEC championship game and have an outside shot at the BCS championship game. Number 15 Arizona goes to number 13 Stanford in a game that should separate the contender from the pretender in the PAC 10. Is Arizona a legitimate threat to Oregon? Not if they don't beat Stanford. The Ducks have several PAC 10 games left. A loss to Arizona and a loss to Oregon State, would give Stanford the Conference Title if they are able to win out. If Stanford beats Arizona and Arizona beats Oregon, then the PAC 10 is going to join the ACC, Big East, and SEC East as a sloppy mess. If Stanford loses, then Arizona controls its destiny in the PAC 10. Number 18 Arkansas goes to Columbia, SC to take on the number 19 South Carolina Gamescocks in a game with SEC East implications. Arkansas is pretty eliminated from the SEC West title. South Carolina, however, is in the thick of the messy SEC East. They are actually in the drivers seat for it, but a loss to Arkansas would end that. Number 21 Baylor goes on the road to take on number 17 Oklahoma State. Baylor beat Texas, but are they for real or is Texas that bad? Well, we find out this weekend. The Big 12 South is still wide open and the 3 teams (Oklahoma is the 3rd) vying for the South Title have yet to play each other. This is the first game between their top 3. Whoever wins will be in the driver's seat and have to beat Oklahoma to go to the Title game. Also, a loss by Baylor hurts TCU in the BCS. So far Baylor has been there big win and the discussion about Utah is that they shouldn't be #5 in the polls. So TCU would love for Baylor to win the Big 12 South. All I know is we have a great slate of games for the weekend. What do you think is the biggest and most important?
I think it is fair to assume, the best bowl game this year is the 2011 Tostitos BCS National Championship Game. It involves two teams that have never played for the BCS Title. Both the Ducks and the Auburn Tigers have been snubbed by the BCS before. Finally, you have the PAC 10 vs the SEC for the first time in the BCS Championship Game. With this in mind, this poll does not include the National Championship Game. There are other great games though. From the Bowl Games Provided, What is the Best 2010-11 College Football Bowl Game to watch?
With the absence of Peterson, campers were offered a full refund on the $199 payment if they no longer wanted to attend. Not many exercised that option.“We had a total of like 15 kids who didn't want to come,” said Gregg Darbyshire, the CEO of ProCamps. “But we have about 300 that are out here participating.”Although the absence of Peterson hurt the draw, the camp was able to scramble quickly and locate three former Sooners to help out.“We are just grateful that Mark (Clayton) was able to come up from Dallas, Jason (White) is here locally and DeMarco (Murray) is here tomorrow,” Darbyshire said.WHITE REMEMBERS CAMPThe campers may benefit from the instruction of a former Heisman winner, but Jason White said he gets more out of the camp than the kids.“It is unbelievable to see the kid's faces and watch them work hard,” White said. “And when they learn something, you know they learned it because their face just lights up. I really enjoy doing this.”And before he starred at OU, White remembers when he was just in the same position as these young kids.“There have been a couple kids with some good mechanics at quarterback,” White said. “This is where it starts for some kids and this is where it started for me.”LOCKOUT TALKAs the lone NFL player in attendance, there was no way Mark Clayton could avoid the lockout questions. And when those questions came from the media, Clayton seemed optimistic about the current situation.“Supposedly they were in talks this week so hopefully things will get done and we will hear something in a little bit,” Clayton said. “It sounds like a lot of what we asked for, apart from finances, we have been able to agree upon. “So at this point we are just waiting for the final say. It seems like it is close, so that is positive.”

I'm not going to break down all the major flaws with this ridiculous logic...I'm just going to mention the 800 pound gorilla people ignore when talking about the "Heisman Trophy Curse." And that's the SEC. Both the Florida Gators Tim Tebow and the Alabama Crimson Tide's Mark Ingram won a Heisman and National Championships. Tebow won one the year after winning his Heisman, and Ingram won both in the same year. The SEC is also the reason some Heisman winners never won a championship. OU's QB, Jason White, won a Heisman but lost to LSU in the National Championship Game. Troy Smith and Sam Bradford both won the Heisman, but both then lost to Florida in the Championship Game. I actually live in Eugene, OR and have heard some of the local radio hosts saying the Oregon Ducks will be motivated after Heisman Trophy Runner-up LaMichael James lost to Cam. Really? They need a Heisman loss to be motivated for the Championship Game...I'll have to disagree. At least I hope not. The words "BCS NATIONAL TITLE" should be enough to motivate someone. The Heisman Curse Does Not Apply! Am I Right?War Damn Eagle!
Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011 is one of the most important days for us diehard college football fans and recruiting junkies. It is the day we learn about the new kids that have decided to come play football for our team for the next 3 to 4 years. College Football National Signing Day has become as competitive and as exciting as the actual football games. It is during the recruiting process that Head Coaches earn their money. I don't care how great of a coach somebody has been in the past. If they don't have the elite talent in the nation, then they aren't going to win championships. They might be excellent coaches, but they are limited by the ability of their players.Which team listed will finish with the nation's best recruiting class?
