Through the first eleven weeks of the 2011 college football season, the Stanford Cardinal's quarterback, Andrew Luck, dominated the Heisman Trophy race and discussion. However, following a close win to the USC Trojans and then losing the next week to the Oregon Ducks, Luck no longer leads in the race for the Heisman Trophy Award. Instead, the quarterback of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Brandon Weeden, is now considered the front-runner.Weeden has led the Cowboys to an undefeated season thus far and has them currently ranked #2 in the BCS standings. Though he is currently the leader, he has not separated himself from the rest of the hopefuls. He does, however, still have to play the #5 Oklahoma Sooners. If the Cowboys beat the Sooners, then they are going to the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans, LA. One of the major, if not most important qualifications needed by a quarterback to win the award is to have his team in contention for the National Championship. The only thing that can stop the Cowboys from going to the BCS Title Game is if the Sooners beat them.If Weeden is able to beat the Sooners and has a descent to good game will he win the Heisman Trophy Award?
Brandon Roy is out for at least another week due to his knee injury. There is no definitive timetable for the Blazer's return to the court. Roy is a competitor and usually rushes back as soon as possible. This time he's taking a more cautious approach. Brandon states, "I don't think it would be smart to try and push it right now when I still have a little more time to gain some rest. It seems like everybody has their own opinion on what Brandon should do. What do you think Brandon Roy should do?
I'm a huge Trail Blazer fan, which means I'm a huge Brandon Roy fan. This season he has missed three games due to an injured left knee. When he does play, he's not at the same level he used to be. We are all hoping for the best for Brandon and the Trail Blazers. Do you think Brandon Roy will bounce back?
Arkansas Razorbacks wide receiver, Joe Adams, made one of the greatest plays I have ever seen. You can see it in the video above. He breaks at least six Tennessee Volunteers attempted tackles before taking it to the house. It was damn impressive. Will Joe Adams punt return versus Tennessee win play of the year? Eagerly waiting for the unveiling of the University of Michigan’s new mascot? Don’t hold your breath. Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon said no one is working on a mascot and that Michigan may never have one. Last week in an article on Michigan Today, an online newsletter for Michigan alumni, Brandon said the department is interested in the idea of a mascot. But in email to AnnArbor.com, Brandon said it is not something anyone on his staff is actively working on. “There are many other priorities at the present time. And it may never happen,” Brandon said in the email. “It is a difficult thing to do well, as we have found out with past efforts in this area.” Michigan is one of three Big Ten schools without a mascot, along with Illinois and Indiana. In week 4 of the 2011 College Football Season, the Oklahoma State Cowboys will visit College Station to play the Texas A&M Aggies. This game has huge national and conference implications. The winner gets a leg up for the Big 12 South Title and keeps its BCS Championship dreams alive. The loser is most likely out of both. Last year, OSU beat TAMU by kicking a field goal at the end of the game in Stillwater, OK. The Aggies will be looking for revenge. The Cowboys, arguably, have the best quarterback and wide receiver combo in the nation in Brandon Weeden to Justin Blackmon. The two have already hooked up 27 times for 329 yards and 3 touchdowns this season. However, the Cowboys aren't one dimensional with running back Joseph Randle, ranked number eight in the nation for total rushing yards. The Aggies will need their defense to slow down the Cowboys offense, and if they are able to do that they have plenty of fire power on offense to put up some points. Stat Comparison of Both TeamsOklahoma State Statistics through Week ThreeRushing Offense - ranked 37; 193.00 rushing yards per gamePassing Offense - ranked 1; 408.00 passing yards per gameTotal Offense - ranked 2; 601.00 total yards per gameScoring Offense - ranked 3; 52.33 points per gameRushing Defense - ranked 82; 171.33 rushing yards given up per gamePass Defense - ranked 84; 242.33 passing yards given up per gameTotal Defense - ranked 92; 413.67 total yards given up per gameScoring Defense - ranked 76; 27.00 points given up per game Texas A&M Statistics through Week ThreeRushing Offense - ranked 47; 176.00 rushing yards per gamePassing Offense - ranked 18; 311.50 passing yards per gameTotal Offense - ranked 18; 487.50 total yards per gameScoring Offense - ranked 17; 41.50 points per gameRushing Defense - ranked 10; 67.50 rushing yards given up per gamePass Defense - ranked 51; 199.50 passing yards given up per gameTotal Defense - ranked 15; 267.00 total yards given up per gameScoring Defense - ranked 9; 10.50 points given up per game The Aggies are a four point favorite at home, and they have the front seven on defense to stop the Cowboys run game. However, I don't believe they have the back four to stop the Cowboys air attack. Hence, I believe OSU will in its fourth in a row against A&M.
The normal scenario went down on Survivor: South Pacific tonight. All the usual moves that we have seen season after season from a regular bunch of people. All doing the typical game moves like making alliances, identifying weak players, going hard after immunities, delivering lies, manipulating each other, working out strategies and in the end voting that one tribal member off. Nothing out of the ordinary on this episode, that is until “Coach” Wade asked Brandon Hantz “How are you doing?” That’s when Brandon replied “I have my doubts.” Coach asked “ About who?” Out of no where and for no apparent reason Brandon said “Mikayla (Wingle). I have a bad feeling. All I can think about is poverty, poverty, poverty she’s screwed many a man.” Brandon explained to the cameras that he wants to get rid of Mikayla because of her “seductive young girl ways.” He explained that he has had problems in the past but nothing is getting in the way of his family, himself and the million dollars. Then he set out to gather support for dumping Mikayla. Coach summed it up to the cameras “He has demons we don’t know about that he deals with on a daily basis.” Coach didn’t want to vote Mikayla off, Sophie Clarke didn’t know what Brandon’s deal was and Christiana Shields Markoski asked “Why Mikayla it makes no sense whatsoever?” This bad feeling Brandon has is one sided. I bet Mikayla has hardly noticed Brandon and is not at all interested in him. If Brandon is so worried she will seduce him then he needs to volunteer to go home. Why send her home for that type of paranoid reasoning? Did Brandon Hantz cross the line?

Well, don't worry, Michigan fans. Dave Brandon made sure to do a bit of backtracking on the mascot on Friday. He says that while the school is considering the idea, it's not an active project.

(wipes brow) Phew, that was a close one, wasn't it?
I hope Brandon tables this idea for the sake of his own job. If former Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Robinson taught anyone anything while at the school -- and it wasn't defense -- it was that bringing a mascot to Michigan will only lead to losing your job.
Michigan is one of only three Big Ten schools without a mascot roaming its athletic events, but athletic director Dave Brandon has put some thought into changing that. In an article on Michigan Today, an online newsletter for Michigan alumni, Brandon says a mascot can help lure the next generation of Wolverine fans. From the Michigan Today story, which also includes an extensive look back at Michigan's previous foray into the world of mascots: "I'm struck by the fact that when opposing teams come to our stadium, and they bring a mascot, all of our young fans are lined up to see if they can get a picture taken with it, whether it's the Penn State Nittany Lion or Sparty," Brandon told Michigan Today. "That's a little annoying to me. "You can't get your picture taken with a Block M. Mascots are really embraced by the youth demographic and we want to take advantage of that, for all the reasons that are obvious." Later in the article, Brandon told Michigan Today the biggest barrier is the design: "We're interested in doing a mascot but it has to be something that fans love, that children love and everyone can embrace," Brandon explained. "So far we haven't figured out a way to do it. Until we come up with something we love, we don't have a mascot." The Big Ten's mascots include those at Iowa (Herky the Hawk), Michigan State (Sparty), Minnesota (Goldy Gopher), Nebraska (Herbie Husker), Northwestern (Willie the Wildcat), Ohio State (Brutus), Penn State (an unnamed Nittany Lion), Purdue (Purdue Pete) and Wisconsin (Bucky Badger). Illinois retired its controversial mascot, Chief Illiniwek, in 2007 and joined Indiana and Michigan as the only mascot-less schools in the conference.

Posted by Tom Fornelli When West Virginia takes on North Carolina State in the Champs Sports Bowl it's going to have quite a void to fill in its secondary. Head coach -- for now -- Bill Stewart announced during his press conference on Tuesday that the team's top cornerback, Brandon Hogan, will not be playing in the game thanks to a torn ACL. "It just kills me, but not near as bad as it kills him," Stewart said on Tuesday. "Brandon Hogan played with a bicep injury, one in which many wouldn't have played with -- that's how tough the kid is. I was holding out hope that he would be ready to play in this football game, for his sake and for the seniors' sake. He's such an important cog on this defense." Hogan suffered the injury during West Virginia's final game of the season against Rutgers on December 4th. The team had been hoping that Hogan would be able to put off surgery on the knee until after the game, but that's obviously not going to happen at this point. Stewart said that either sophomore Pat Miller or freshman Brodrick Jones will start in Hogan's place, and that the team may blitz more to try and make up for Hogan's absence. Why he'd give away that strategy during a press conference, I don't know. This won't be the first game Hogan has missed this season, as he was suspended earlier this season following a DUI arrest. Hogan finishes his senior season with 37 tackles and 3 interceptions.

Brandon Miller resigned as assistant coach of the Ohio State's men's basketball team Thursday to spend more time with his family. OSU athletic department spokesman, Dan Wallenberg, confirmed Miller's resignation in an email to The Lantern. "We wish the Miller family well," Wallenberg said. "Brandon has been a significant part of Ohio State's success the last several years and he will be missed." Wallenberg declined to comment further and would not name potential replacements for Miller, saying, "we do not discuss personnel situations until positions are filled." Miller graduated from Butler University in 2003. While there, Miller played under current OSU coach Thad Matta. After his playing career, Miller spent the 2005-2007 seasons as director of basketball operations and video coordinator to Matta at OSU. Miller returned to his alma mater as assistant coach for Butler's 2007-08 season before rejoining Matta's staff in the summer of 2008. OSU sophomore forward Jared Sullinger posted on his Twitter account, @Jared_Sully0, at about 1 a.m. Friday morning: "Best Wishes to OSU Basketball assistant Brandon Miller. Leaving The game to spend time with his family." Jeff Boals and Dave Dickerson are the remaining assistant coaches for the Buckeyes. Former Duke guard Greg Paulus is the newest member of Matta's staff, and was introduced on June 9 as video coordinator for the team. OSU has not announced its schedule for the upcoming season.

Leaving The game to spend time with his family."
Jeff Boals and Dave Dickerson are the remaining assistant coaches for the Buckeyes. Former Duke guard Greg Paulus is the newest member of Matta's staff, and was introduced on June 9 as video coordinator for the team.
OSU has not announced its schedule for the upcoming season.
Over the last few weeks I've noticed that the two tribes on 'Survivor South Pacific' consist of some members that mirror each other in personality disorders and others that contrast from each other. On this week's episode, Savaii member, Jim seemed paranoid about Elyse and Ozzy developing a close relationship. He was afraid their bond would mess up his plans of voting the women off when they get down to their alliance of five. At Upolu, Jim's much more extreme paranoid mirror image, Brandon needs to lighten up. He's busy apologizing to as many people as he can for the problems he created as a result of his paranoia . Mikayla, an Upolu, was astute in pointing out that Brandon's problems would be solved if he would just think before he spoke- she's a smart common sense type. In contrast, Dawn,a Savaii, was just starting to wonder if some of the people in Savaii might be in an alliance. Edna, from Upolu, is the nervous one in that tribe and Cochran from Savaii takes that role on for them. We are more alike than we want to be sometimes, and at the same time we are all different. If you could choose, which tribe would you want to be in?
The University of Michigan Athletic Department expects to more than double its surplus in fiscal year 2012. At the University of Michigan Board of Regents meeting on Thursday, athletic director Dave Brandon presented a budget with anticipated revenues of $121.2 million dollars versus expenses of $109.8 million, a surplus of $11.38 million dollars. The Michigan athletic department expects a surplus of $4.7 million dollars for fiscal year 2011, which ends June 30. It will be the department’s 10th straight year in the black. “We’re in a very strong financial position,” Brandon said in a presentation to the Board of Regents. “We are forecasting another healthy growth year for Michigan athletics.” Two large reasons for the increase are the addition of an eighth home game for the 2011 football season and the fact that premium and box seats are, according to Brandon, “100 percent sold out, and a line is quickly forming.” The additional home game expects to bring an additional $4.63 million in revenue, while the premium seating revenue will bring in an additional $5.1 million. The only reported loss in revenue according to the budget was due to not holding a Big Chill, which brought in $1.4 million in revenue. According to the NCAA’s annual report, released on Wednesday, there are 22 self-sufficient Division I athletic departments across the country with a median net surplus of $7.4 million. Regent Andrea Fisher Newman pointed out that the athletic department contributes to the general fund in both tuition for scholarship athletes and through a donation, which this year will be $1.8 million according to Brandon, down from $2 million last year. Brandon added that 74 percent of scholarships are for out-of-state student-athletes. Cost of tuition and fees for the 2011-12 school year will be $12,634 for in-state students, $37,782 for out of state. Pete Cunningham covers sports for AnnArbor.com.
