In the 2011 SEC Championship Game, the LSU Tigers will play the Georgia Bulldogs in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA. This is the first of many polls covering the game and is just asking who do you think will win?
The Georgia Bulldogs and the Florida Gators face-off this weekend in their annual contest in Jacksonville, FL dubbed the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. The Dawgs enter the game 5-2 and 4-1 in the SEC with a chance to win the SEC East. Florida, on the other hand, is 5-3 and 2-3 in the SEC. All the Gators will be playing for is pride and bragging rights in the rivalry game. As the week moves along, I will be updating and adding to this post with important information concerning the game such as injury reports and the Vegas odds. In the SEC Championship Game, the LSU Tigers were struggling versus the Georgia Bulldogs. Then, with around six minutes left in the first half, Tyrann Mathieu returned a punt for a TD. After that moment, LSU dominated the game. Did he save their season with his punt returns against UGA?Were Tyrann Mathieu's punt returns versus UGA the play of the year for LSU?
The Georgia Bulldogs began the 2011 college football season by losing their first two games versus the Boise State Broncos and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Since then, the Bulldogs have won five in a row and seem to be on a roll. The Dawgs have only lost one conference game, and find themselves currently tied with the Gamecocks for first in the SEC East. For UGA to win the SEC East, they need the Gamecocks to lose another game in the SEC, which is likely since they are decimated with injuries and still have to play Tennessee Volunteers, Florida Gators, and Arkansas Razorbacks. They will also have to face those opponents without their best player, RB Marcus Lattimore. UGA still has Florida, Auburn Tigers, and Kentucky Wildcats left on their SEC schedule. Florida currently finds itself in a similar situation as South Carolina with key injuries to quarterback John Brantley and RB Jeff Demps. Auburn is extremely young and inconsistent. Their offense has struggled badly in the last three or four weeks. Kentucky is Kentucky, and they should be an easy win for UGA.Georgia has one of the easiest SEC schedules this season because they did not have to play LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, or Arkansas. Georgia's remaining SEC schedule is also easier than the Gamecocks remaining SEC games. Georgia does, however, have to play the Gators next weekend, which has been a hurdle Georgia has rarely been able to overcome in the last 30 years. Will the Georgia Bulldogs win the SEC East?
The way the current system is playing out seems unfair to me. In week ten of the 2011 college football season, the LSU Tigers traveled to Tuscaloosa, AL and beat the Alabama Crimson Tide in overtime. Therefore, LSU was able to win the SEC West over Bama. Right now it appears that Bama and LSU will play each other in the BCS National Championship Game. Because LSU beat Bama, they are being forced to play the SEC Championship Game versus the #14 Georgia Bulldogs, while Alabama gets to sit at home and begin bowl preparation a week early. Essentially, by losing to LSU, Bama was given a bye-week while the winning team has to play an extra game against a formidable opponent. Is this fair? Should Bama be given the de facto bye-week?

Currently, the Oklahoma State Cowboys are #3 in the BCS Rankings behind the Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers. Next weekend, OSU plays the #10 Oklahoma Sooners for the Big 12 Championship. The LSU Tigers will be playing in the SEC Championship Game versus the Georgia Bulldogs. Alabama, however, will not be playing because their season is over after having lost the SEC West to LSU. If OSU beats Oklahoma by a blowout, will they be able to jump Bama in the BCS?

Parks and Recreation Department may have revealed potential violations regarding two University of Georgia athletes, according to a report in the Ledger-Enquirer.Police records show that department director Tony Adams and top lieutenant Herman Porter used an unauthorized bank account to pay for flights for USC transfer Jarvis Jones. The investigation also reveals possible wrongdoing involving shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (read more on Caldwell-Pope and the hardwood Bulldogs at the Eye On College Basketball). Both Jones and Caldwell-Pope played on the Georgia Blazers, a city-funded, Nike-sponsored AAU basketball team. A Parks and Recreation employee told police that Adams used the Georgia Blazers credit card to pay for four different flights between Atlanta and Los Angeles for Jones' mother in the Summer/Fall 2009. According to the report, the total cost of all four flights was $828.40.Jones was a highly touted recruit when he signed with USC in 2009, but a neck injury kept him from being cleared medically and led to his transfer to Athens. After sitting out the 2010 season, he is projected as a starting linebacker for the Bulldogs in the fall. As of Sunday afternoon, Georgia's compliance office stated the school had not received any information from the NCAA about the investigation. Columbus Police Chief Ricky Boren, however, said the NCAA was "aware of the investigation, allegations and actions of the individuals we had under investigation."If the NCAA determines the purchase of the flights to be in violation on NCAA rules, Jones would likely be suspended for a portion of the Bulldogs' 2011 season. For enrolled student-athletes, any benefit of $500 or greater results in 30% withholding (from games) and repayment of the amount. If this punishment applies to Jones, he would be forced to sit out (likely) the first four games of the 2011 season.Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the first four games of the season include two of the biggest matchups on the schedule. Georgia plays Boise State in a "neutral" Georgia Dome for the Chick Fil-A Kickoff in Atlanta on Sept. 3, then hosts the defending division champion South Carolina Gamecocks in Athens on Sep. 10. In another down year for what many consider a winnable SEC East, that early-season showdown could once again prove to be a pivotal outcome for the division race come August.BRIEFLY: Georgia head coach Mark Richt announced on Sunday that redshirt freshman Brent Benedict is no longer a member of the football program. There was no official statement from Benedict, but the release stated the offensive lineman was leaving for "personal reasons."

Who will face the SEC in the title game? Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies? What about from the PAC-12? Are the Oregon Ducks the surefire favorite or will one of the new schools in the PAC-12 rain on their parade?
We will discuss these questions and more in the following slides.
Julio Jones, WR for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, and AJ Green, WR for the University of Georgia Bulldogs, are considered the two best wide receivers entering the 2011 NFL Draft. Jones and Green began their college careers in 2008. According to ESPN College Football Recruiting Rankings, Jones was the #1 WR coming out of high school and the #2 overall player in the nation and Green was the #2 WR and the #5 overall player. Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, ESPN NFL Draft Analysts, believe Green will be the #1 WR picked and Jones will be #2.AJ Green Statistics at the University of Georgia Bulldogs 166 receptions; 2,619 yards receiving; 15.8 yards per catch, 65 yard long; and 23 TD'sJulio Jones Statistics at the University of Alabama Crimson Tide 179 receptions; 2,653 yards receiving; 14.8 yards per catch, 73 yard long; and 15 TD's; 8 rushing attempts for 135 yards, 56 yard long, and 2 TD's Both players have been exceptional for their teams, however, I have to agree with Kiper and McShay. I think AJ Green is a little bit better. I think he has a little more speed and is a slightly better route runner. What do you think? Julio Jones vs AJ Green: Who is the Best WR in the 2011 NFL Draft
Following another embarrassing beatdown to a conference rival this season against the Georgia Bulldogs, the Auburn Tigers fans and media want Head Coach Gene Chizik to fire defensive coordinator Ted Roof. In each of Roof's three seasons as the DC at Auburn, the Tigers defense has progressively gotten worse. Often the players on the field look unprepared and lost. Auburn has a lot of talent on their team, and therefore there is no excuse for their defense to be ranked 86th in Total Defense, 97th in Rushing Defense, and 87th in Pass Efficiency Defense. The young team excuse is no longer acceptable because this team is not improving. In fact, they may be getting worse. It is true that they are young, and therefore most Auburn fans don't have irrational expectations. However, we do expect to see an improvement in their performance throughout the season. This has not been the case this year. Personally, I think it is time for him to go, but what do you think?Should Auburn Fire Ted Roof?
I love the hire of Brian VanGorder by Auburn Tigers coach Gene Chizik. The last month has been tough for the Auburn Family. We lost both of our coordinators, our top recruit to the Alabama Crimson Tide, our best player, Mike Dyer, has left the team, and Bama won the BCS National Title. The perception of the program and overall direction seemed to have been in a downward spiral. We really needed to change the momentum heading into National Recruiting Signing Day by making a big splash, and I think hiring a coach with NFL pedigree as our defensive coordinator did just that. I also like the timing of announcing the new defensive coordinator by Coach Chizik. It was not coincidental the announcement came on the same day two of Auburn's Rivals, the LSU Tigers and Bama, were playing in the 2012 BCS National Championship Game. Instead of being completely forgotten during tomorrow's media coverage of college football because a rival won the Title, the Tigers new hire will also be discussed and will steal some of the press Bama would have gotten in-state and in the SEC. His timing, in my opinion, was brilliant. The only other time of making the announcement that might have been better would have been the day after the BCS Title game.VanGroder has about 30 years of coaching experience, including a four year stop as the defensive coordinator in the SEC at Georgia. He has coached in various levels of college football and in the NFL as linebackers coach, defensive coordinator, and head coach. Coach Chizik said he was looking for a great coach and recruiter, and I believe VanGroder fits that billing. Here is a glance of VanGroder's bio: Central Florida defensive coordinator (1996-97)Central Michigan defensive coordinator (1998-99)Western Illinois defensive coordinator (2000)Georgia defensive coordinator (2001-04)Jacksonville Jaguars line backers coach (2005)Georgia Southern head coach (2006)Atlanta Falcons line backers coach (2007)Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator (2008-11)As defensive coordinator with the Georgia Bulldogs, Phillip Marshall of Auburn Undercover reports the following (bullets added):In 2001, the Bulldogs allowed 18.9 points per game, No. 5 in rushing defense and No. 17 in scoring defense. In 2002, led the Southeastern Conference in scoring defense at fewer than 15 points per game as Georgia won the league championship and finished No.3 in the polls. In 2003, VanGorder's defense was No. 3 nationally in scoring defense, No. 4 in total defense and No. 6 in passing defense. He won the Frank Boyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach. In 2004, VanGorder's final season, the Bulldogs were No. 8 nationally in scoring defense. Those are damn impressive statistics and are directly relevant for evaluating his potential at Auburn. He has had success in the South Eastern Conference and with the talent currently at Auburn, he should be able to produce better results and have more success than Auburn's former DC, Ted Roof. Adding NFL experience should make him even better. What do you think? Was VanGorder a great hire by Auburn head coach Gene Chizik?
