The San Francisco 49ers are the biggest surprise of the 2011 NFL. They are currently 10-2 and in 1st place of the NFC West. They have also already clinched a playoff berth.

The 49ers have without a doubt been a great team this season, but the question is whether they will be able to continue to impress through the NFL playoffs when everything is on the line in single elimination games.

Will the San Francisco 49ers win in the NFL Playoffs?

Nine weeks into the 2011 NFL Season, the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves with three wins and six losses, and are currently third in the NFC East. Typically, nine or ten wins is enough for a team to make the playoffs. The Eagles have the following games left on their schedule

  • Sun, Nov 20 @ New York Giants (6-3, 1st in NFC East)
  • Sun, Nov 27 vs New England Patriots (6-3, 1st in AFC East)
  • Thu, Dec 1 @ Seattle Seahawks (3-6, 2nd in NFC West)
  • Sun, Dec 11 @ Miami Dolphins (2-7, 4th in AFC East)
  • Sun, Dec 18 vs New York Jets (5-4, 2nd in AFC East)
  • Sat, Dec 24 @ Dallas Cowboys (5-4, 2nd in NFC East)
  • Sun, Jan 1 vs Washington Redskins (3-6, 3rd in NFC East)
With that schedule left to play, Will the Philadelphia Eagles make the playoffs?

After losing to Cleveland last night 102-90, more and more people are beginning to question whether or not the '3 Kings' can pull off a run at the title in the NBA Playoffs this year. Even with LeBron James having a triple double with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists, and Dwayne Wade scoring 23 points it was still not enough to beat the 15-58 Cleveland Cavaliers. A team like this should be an easy win this late in the season for the Heat, but for some odd reason not known yet, this team has not gelled like everyone expected them to. As of right now they have a very weak hold on the #2 seed in the East. This team has been gutted and revamped with the so called creme de la creme. Mike Miller and recently Mike Bibby have been added to fill the void but to no avail. Will the Heat pull it together by the Playoffs to make a run for the championship, or will the Heat continue to fall apart and implode by or before Round 2?

Michael Vick is one of the most electrifying players in the National Football League. He is a threat to score a touchdown whenever the ball is in his hands. He was the first pick in the 2001 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. In six seasons with the Falcons, he led them twice to the playoffs and made the Pro Bowl three times.

Vick next spent two years out of the NFL due to involvement with a dog fighting ring. After spending time in prison, Vick was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009. In 2010, he led the Eagles to the playoffs and made the Pro Bowl for the fourth time.

This season, however, the Eagles are struggling and some of the blame belongs to Vick. It is doubtful the Eagles make the playoffs this season. However, the question is about the future. Does Vick have the skills as a quarterback to ever win the big game. There is no doubt he has the running ability, but is he good enough to fulfill the traditional role of quarterback too?

Is Michael Vick capable of winning a Super Bowl?

7 seasons and counting, Lebron finds himself without a supporting cast (a 38 year old Shaq doesn't count) and without the "killer instinct" to pull his team through in the playoffs. Where's Kobe when you need him? Did he tank on purpose?

Bobby Thompson hit a HR in the 9th inning to lead his NY Giants over the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1951 3 game runoff to make the playoffs. Many argue its the greatest HR and had the most impact of all time. Do you agree? If not, then what HR is the greatest of all time?

The Los Angeles Lakers were embarrassed in the 2nd Round of the Playoffs by the Dallas Mavericks. They were swept for the first time in the playoffs since the 1970's. And it looked bad.

Kobe Bryant is old and no longer a true number one on a team. Pau Gasol just does not come across as tough when inside the paint. Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum don't even look like they want to be there. Bynum's dirty and unnecessarily violent foul in the game seemed as an intentional way to get to leave the game. They just didn't look like the Lakers that won a championship only one year ago.

It also seems as though Phil Jackson is gone for sure. He seems to be set on leaving. With 11, Jackson has won more championships than any other Coach from any professional sport in history. He literally has nothing left to prove.

So, Should the Lakers start over or try to win at least one more championship with the current team?

In the opening game of the Phillies-Reds playoff series, Philadelphia Pitcher, Roy Halliday, pitched a no-hitter. This is only the second time in history a pitcher has pitched a no hitter in a play-off match. On top of a stellar season, does this seal the Cy-Young award for Halladay?

After being swept by the Dallas Mavericks in Round 2 of the Western Division Playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers seemed to be in disarray. They had two players ejected from the game - Andrew Bynum & Lamar Odom, and it seems as though Bynum will most likely be suspended next season for throwing an elbow into J.J. Barea and knocking him onto the ground.

Phil Jackson made it clear this would be his final season with the Lakers. This will leave the Lakers without a head coach. In his press conference, Jackson said "It feels good that we ended the season, to be honest with you." ESPN's J.A. Adonde writes "That's a stunning quote from a man who always chased championships. It indicates this team wasn't a joy to coach (bolstered by Jackson sounding more sentimental about moving away from his coaching staff than his players) and shows why this group couldn't successfully defend its back-to-back championships." That is hard to believe a head coach would actually be happy the season is over. Jackson must have truly been fed up with his current roster.

The Lakers have 3 Bigs in Bynum, Odom, and Pau Gasol. However, they play soft. I think the Lakers should part ways with at least one of them. In my opinion, they are not tough enough, which is something the Mavericks exposed during the series. The Lakers need a dominant force that OWNS the paint.

Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic becomes a Free Agent in 2012, and if they Lakers attempted they may be able to trade one or two of their Bigs to the Magic and acquire him before the 2011 season begins. If they choose not to directly trade for Howard, I think they really need to sign him out of free agency. He is the perfect missing piece to the 2010-11 Lakers. With a presence like him in the paint, the Lakers would have easily won their 3rd championship in a row.

These are all things I think the Lakers need to do before next season, however, do you feel as though one is more important than the other. Which of these options would be the first move you made?

The Los Angeles Lakers hopes for a 3-Peat Championship Run was swept away by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2nd Round of the Western Division Playoffs. It was bad, really bad for the two-time defending NBA Champs. They seemed to have just not even shown up. It is as though they did not even care whether they won the game or not.

Over the past week, the Lakers players aired their laundry with the media, talked to trash to each other, and pointed fingers at each other as being the cause of their losses, It never seemed as though Phil Jackson really put the effort to control the team and get them focused on the series at hand. They needed someone to lead and motivate them, and in my opinion, such a responsibility lies with the head coach.

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Donnie Walsh’s last NBA draft pick got the same response as his first one back in 1986.

The New York Knicks team president said that when he first came in to the league with the Indiana Pacers, he was booed for drafting Chuck Person in the 1986 Draft and jeered again for selecting Reggie Miller in the 1987 Draft.

With a crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark that included No. 1 Knicks fans Spike Lee chanting “Let’s Go Knicks!” as the pick was to be announced Thursday night, Georgia Tech’s Iman Shumpert’s name drew a mixed reaction that included boos.

“I feel good about it. I really do,” Walsh joked about the crowd’s reaction of the 17th pick in the NBA Draft.

“And I’m going out with everybody booing.”

Walsh, 70, decided not return to the Knicks when his contract expires June 30.

But Walsh revived a franchise that made the playoffs for the first time since the 2004 season with the signing of Amar’e Stoudemire last summer and the trade that brought Carmelo Anthony along with Chauncey Billups in February.

“I loved it here. I really did,” Walsh said. “When I came up here I wasn’t quite sure but within two or three weeks I was really glad and enjoyed every minute I spent here. I came here to try to see if I could get the New York Knicks back in stride and I wanted to see if I could get them to go into the contending level.”

New York reached the playoffs in his third year but were swept in the first round by the Boston Celtics.

The Knicks could have gone with size by either picking 6-foot-8 forward Chris Singleton out of Florida State or another 6-8 forward Morehead State’s Kenneth Faried, a local kid from Newark to help out Stoudemire, who was banged up in the playoffs.

Instead they went with Shumpert, who gives them size and athleticism at the guard position.

“We are very excited to have Iman,” Head Coach Mike D’Antoni said in a statement released by the team. “He is one of the better athletes in this draft who can play multiple positions. He will fit nicely with what we are doing here, defensively and offensively.”

Walsh said that they spoke a lot about taking a player with size but the way the draft went, the Knicks huddled and decided to go with the guard since they had more room there.

Had it been another year, he said they would have selected Faried if the Knicks felt they had a complete team because of his value as a good rebounder.

Walsh said Faried wasn’t ready to take Stoudemire off the center position.

“He could be a Dennis Rodman but I’m not sure about that.”

The 6-foot-5 Shumpert averaged 15.0 points in three seasons with the Yellow Jackets including 20.4 last season when he became the fourth player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to lead his team in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals.

Walsh says Shumpert is ready to step in to the rotation and complement Stoudemire and Anthony.

“Well, he is athletic. I think his future is well ahead of him and he is a good player right now,” Walsh said. “I think he’s got a very good upside. He can play point guard or you can move him over to two guard. He’s very good defensively. He’s got a good package. He’s got tremendously long arms.

Walsh chose Danilo Gallinari with the sixth overall pick in the 2008 draft and the following year picked Jordan Hill and the eight spot and then traded him to the Houston Rockets in the deal that brought Tracy McGrady to New York. The Knicks did not have a first round pick in the 2010 draft but in the second round chose Landry Fields, who contributed to the playoff run.

In order to get Anthony from Denver, the Knicks depleted their roster by giving away forwards Gallinari and Wilson Chandler and center Timofey Mozgov.

“I think there are more pieces here now. Once we made the trade we got two stars but we lost a lot of pieces. ... So the job now is to replace them and because of the trade we’re not in a great cap position for next summer but the following summer we’re in a great (position). So I think the job now is to manage the cap and to add pieces that will cover up whatever it is we don’t have there. Obviously big people are that.”

Personally, I think Aaron Rodgers has already established himself as an elite NFL QB and stepped out of the shadow left by the Packers Legendary Quarterback, Brett Favre. His record and statistics speak for themselves. In only his 3rd season as the starter, Rodgers is leading his team to the Super Bowl. In the same amount of time, Favre has played with 2 different clubs, came up short in the 2010 NFC Championship Game, and this year he failed to lead his Vikings, the pre-season favorites, to the playoffs.

While I don't think Rodgers should still be viewed as living under the shadow cast by Favre, there will always be people that will judge Rodgers' against Favre's in evaluating his career. Will a Super Bowl Ring help Rodgers step out of Brett Favre's Shadow?

Former Ohio State defenseman Matt Bartkowski (2008-09, 2009-10), in his first year as a professional hockey player, was a part of the Boston Bruins' run to the Stanley Cup title throughout the NHL playoffs. Bartkowski was one of the team's "black aces," a group of players with the team who most likely won't play in a game but have a future with the organzation and are able to get the experience of the NHL postseason. For more on the "black aces" click HERE

After the Bruins won Game 7 in Vancouver, 4-0, Bartkowski was on the ice with the team for the presentation of the Stanley Cup, took part in the on-ice festivities and the celebrations that followed.

Ryan Kesler, a Buckeye in 2002-03, is an alternate captain for the Canucks and skated in all 25 playoff goals, recoding seven goals (two gamewinners), 12 assists and 19 points. A Vancouver win would have made him the second Buckeye with his name on the Stanley Cup, joining OSU Hall of Famer Jamie Macoun  (CGY '89, DET '98). A list of all former college hockey players with their name on the Stanley Cup is HERE.

Tim Tebow has arguably been the most highly criticized quarterback in the history of the National Football League. Pundits have repeatedly dismissed him as incapable of leading a football team in the NFL. What has Tebow done in response? Proven them wrong.

In his seven starts this season, Tebow has led the Denver Broncos to a 6-1 record and they are now in contention for the playoffs. His style of play is anything but conventional, however, he is getting the job done. Most importantly, he is getting it done when the game is on the line. His run-pass threat might be the most dominant weapon with two minutes left in a game the NFL has ever seen.

Now that Tebow has proven the doubters wrong by winning as the Broncos quarterback, they say he can't win a playoff game. What do you think?

Can the Denver Broncos win a playoff game with Tim Tebow?
