We don't just own them during the finals, we own them in the looks department too. Damn Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are ugly. I bet when they greet a baby, it starts to cry in fear of the monster looking down at them. The question is, however, which wilderbeast is uglier? Have fun figuring this one out.

The Guinness Book of World records declares Paul McCartney as the most successful songwriter of all time.   Paul and his girlfriend of four years, Nancy Shevell, are getting married.  They started dating in 2007 and Paul went through a messy divorce from Heather Mills the next year.  He doesn’t seem to hesitate falling in love.  He said in 2008, “I just like being in love.”

This will be his third marriage: he married Linda McCartney in 1969 and Heather in 2002.  A source says that Paul and Nancy “have the right chemistry” and “They’re both cool, chilled out and optimistic.”  Even his children like her.  A source close to Stella said his daughter and fashion designer was “thrilled for her father.”

Paul is 68 and Nancy is 51 making it a 17 year age difference, but according to another source they are a perfect pair. Do you think  the 17 year difference is too much?

How about you? Would you hook up with Deena if you were in Pauly D's shoes?

Adam Frost's two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in Jonathan Van Every with the winning run as the St. Paul Saints beat the Wingnuts 4-3 on Friday night in St. Paul, Minn.

With one out in the ninth Alex Garabedian walked. Van Every then hit a one-out double off Wingnuts reliever Jared Simon. Brent Clevlen played the ball of the fence and fired it to Josh Horn, whose relay throw cut down Garabedian at the plate for the second out. Frost followed with the game-winning hit.

Wichita trailed 3-1 before rallying for two runs in the sixth thanks to a pair of throwing errors by Frost. The first allowed Cleven to reach base, and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Workman. The second error came on Edwin Bellorin's slow roller and let Jose Delgado score.

Jose Duran drove in the Wingnuts' first run in the second inning with the first of his three hits.

Bar owners in North St. Paul say a proposed city ordinance would force them to shut down on Sundays.

The North St. Paul City Council is expected to vote this evening on whether to deem establishments generating less than 50 percent of their revenue from food sales ineligible for a Sunday liquor license. The proposal also would require seating for at least 30 people separate from a bar area.

"The equipment and things they're saying that we need are nearly impossible to get," said David Jonas, who said his Roddy's Bar on East Seventh Avenue would have to expand his kitchen. "No one is OK with it."

The issue arose when North St. Paul police Chief Tom Lauth discovered many of the local bars weren't in compliance with the current city ordinance. Lauth said the law wasn't being enforced and he didn't know why.

Current city law requires establishments selling liquor on Sundays to have separate seating for at least 100 people while employing at least two full-time cooks, 15 full-time employees and a variety of eating utensils, including china.

"If you're open on Sundays and selling more liquor than food, you're probably more of a bar than a restaurant," said North St. Paul Mayor Mike Kuehn. "If it isn't a restaurant, you can't have a (Sunday) license."

With with the current law mostly ignored, it's appropriate to update it, the mayor said. The 50 percent rule in the new ordinance, he added, is a "common sense" standard for the city's establishments.

The

proposed North St. Paul law is too restrictive and puts the businesses at a disadvantage to competitors in neighboring cities, say bar owners.

Minnesota state law says establishments with a valid liquor license and seating for at least 30 people can get a Sunday license from a city to sell booze with food from 10 a.m. Sundays to 2 a.m. Mondays.

"I don't really understand why (North St. Paul is) trying to be more restrictive than the state is," said Jonas, of Roddy's Bar. "We all understand that we have to serve food. But what they have (proposed) right now is really going to hurt."

If the ordinance passes, he will have to close his bar on Sundays, costing him at least 25 percent of his business given that Vikings games fill up his bar during football season.

An opponent to the measure, city council member Candy Petersen, said even the "most popular" bar in town - Neumann's Bar on East Seventh Avenue - can't come close to generating 50 percent of its revenue from food sales.

"I think it's going to be horrible," Petersen said. "I think that 50 percent is unreasonable. Fifteen percent is reasonable."

Matt Trost, bar and hall manager for American Legion Post 39 on East Seventh Avenue, posted a letter on the group's website last week calling the proposed ordinance "unrealistic, unattainable and utterly ridiculous."

"Not only will this affect the bars, but this proposal will negatively impact the community as well," Trost wrote. He noted there could be no Sunday benefits or fundraisers in their establishments and said the loss of tax revenue for the city and of customers on Sundays will hurt these businesses the rest of the week as well.

"When people start going to other bars on Sundays for cocktails, why would they come back on Tuesdays or Fridays or Saturdays?" he said.

If passed, the new ordinance would go into effect July 1, 2012.

I wrote last week about Representative John Boehner’s hiring of former Solicitor General Paul Clement to take over defense of the Defense of Marriage Act after President Obama and the Attorney General decided not to have the Department of Justice defend the law. Paul Clement worked as a partner at the law firm King & Spalding. Gay and lesbian rights groups criticized the firm for defending DOMA, and King & Spalding asked Clement to drop the case on Monday April 25, citing problems with the vetting process applied to approval of the DOMA case.

The conflict here lies between the legal right to representation and the necessary defense of unsavory positions for the justice system to work correctly, and the ideological obligation to stand up for equal rights and to stand against institutionalized discrimination.

King & Spalding claim to have asked Clement to drop the case because of bureaucratic missteps, but some speculate that they bent to pressure from gay rights groups. Standing up for equal rights is admirable, and proponents of gay rights may applaud K&S for their decision.

Paul Clement also took a stand by resigning right away.  He explained in his letter of resignation, “I resign out of the firmly held belief that a representation should not be abandoned because the client's legal position is extremely unpopular in certain quarters. Defending unpopular clients is what lawyers do.” He also stated that his personal feelings on the issue have no bearing in this situation. Certainly, even controversial clients deserve legal representation so the justice system can do its job. So who's right in this situation? K&S or Clement?
