Tonight on the premier of the Bachelor, ABC started out with bio/interviews of a few contestants.  A few had stories that were very heartfelt and sincere, but the rest came across as "odd".  Where does ABC find these women?  Brad was given a first impression rose to hand out to the lady who gave the best first impression.   After watching the premier and all the bios and initial introductions, I think it would be fun to give a first impression rose to the most obnoxious contestant.  My vote goes to Madison, the Vampiress who swears she doesn't have a mirror reflection.  Which contestant deserves our first impression rose for the most obnoxious?

I don't think the Bachelor should stop Chris Harrison's weekly introduction to the final rose, but Ellen Degeneres thinks so!  She pointed out on her show today that it's absurd because everyone knows it's the final rose.  Chris defends it even though he thinks it's ridiculous because it sets the moment and builds tension.  So every week he keeps a straight face and does his job.  What do you think, should the show stop Chris Harrison's weekly introduction of the final rose?

Ashley Spivey, a nanny who recently lost her father, was given the "First Impression Rose" by Brad Womack on the debut of the Bachelor. The "First Impression Rose," is given to the girl that makes the best first impression on the bachelor and allows its recipient to be safe from the first elimination.

My Grandma has always told me that the first impression one makes on another person lasts forever. If this is the case, then Womack should end up with Spivey. But will this happen?

Tonight on The Bachelor Pad, Jake Pavelka looked like he was on a gigantic PR mission.  In my opinion, all his efforts with Vienna Girardi looked contrived.  I don’t like Vienna at all and will enjoy The Bachelor Pad much more if she is sent home soon, but I think Jake made some stupid moves tonight.  The main one being he picked Vienna over Gia Allemand for a second time, once on The Bachelor season 14 and tonight on episode one of The Bachelor Pad.  How stupid can a guy get!

Gia told the cameras that after Jake broke up with Vienna she helped him work through some things.  He showed no loyalty or appreciation for Gia when he gave Vienna the third rose of safety.  This reflected poorly on Jake and maybe we’re seeing a few of his true colors.  He definitely should have given the rose to Gia!

After Jake gave Vienna the rose he spoke to her and Kasey Kahl privately.  After he apologized to Vienna she left the room and mocked him in front of the cameras, saying he’s stupid.  Vienna thinks he gave her a rose in an attempt to look good and in her opinion he is a monster.  I don’t think he’s a monster but he is definitely stupid!

Jake told Gia he gave Vienna the rose because he needed a moment with her.  Gia said “Giving a rose and safety is not a moment that’s just kind of....it hurt me and I thought we were like partners.  I thought you would keep me safe and I would keep you safe.   Jake told her not to worry because she wasn’t going home.  Gia told him “I’m not going home because Kasey will keep me safe and not you.”  (Kasey is always willing to protect the ladies)

How stupid is Jake?

  • Fifth-year senior Troy Woolfolk has rehabbed his knee and is ready to deliver punishment in 2011 after missing the entire 2010 season: "Woolfolk continues to take steps toward his return after a dislocated ankle suffered in late August wiped out his 2010 season and dealt Michigan's secondary a major blow. Limited during spring practice, Woolfolk has been cleared for full participation." [ESPN]
  • Sports betting legend Jimmy Boyd makes a living off predicting the outcome of sporting events. Fans are going to hope he goes broke over his recent prediction that Michigan will finish fifth in the Legends Division: "Prediction: 5th Place Big Ten Legends ... The defense should be better, but I’m not sure if fixing an offense that wasn’t broke is such a good move. College football odds makers have listed Michigan at +8500 to win the BCS championship." [JB-LS]
  • More Michigan voters think that Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio will lead the Spartans to a Rose Bowl before Brady Hoke. A LE&A/Perricone Group/Denno Research Quarterly Survey of the Michigan electorate found that 35 percent of voters thought MSU was likely to land in Pasadena first, while 31.8 percent felt Michigan would be the first to taste Rose Bowl glory. 33.2 percent were undecided. Here's quick overview of the coaching situation this season, as per Dennis Dodd's 2011 Hot Seat Ratings

Big Ten
Illinois Ron Zook 4.0
Indiana Kevin Wilson 2.0
Iowa Kirk Ferentz 0.5
Michigan Brady Hoke 1.0
Michigan State Mark Dantonio 0.5
Minnesota Jerry Kill 0.5
Nebraska Bo Pelini 0.5
Northwestern Pat Fitzgerald 0.0
Ohio State Luke Fickell 3.5
Penn State Joe Paterno 2.0
Purdue Danny Hope 2.0
Wisconsin Bret Bielema 0.0

Obviously, this is a two-person list between Illinois head coach Ron Zook and OSU's interim coach Luke Fickell. One could theoretically argue that Fickell's rating ought to be higher, since he almost by default has to win big this year or he's out, but it's not exactly going to be a huge hit to Fickell's career if OSU ends up hiring a bigger-named coach after the 2011. It's not even a given that such a move would leave Fickell out of a job; wouldn't the transition period be softened if Fickell returned to being the assistant head coach for Ohio State under the new head coach, as was the arrangement under Jim Tressel?

As for Zook, though, his Illini are coming off a 38-14 thrashing of Baylor in the Texas Bowl (including this wholly unnecessary last-minute touchdown), and that 2010 squad set an all-time program record for most points scored per game with 32.54 ppg*. Considering the fact that QB Nathan Scheelhaase was just a freshman in '10 and all, the future would appear to be much brighter than Zook's job security would indicate.

But to think that is to ignore the history of Ron Zook, and the disappointment that defines his legacy.

It's to ignore the fact that the Texas Bowl berth was only Zook's second in six years at Illinois (the other being a still-unbelievable Rose Bowl, one in which Illinois was so thoroughly throttled by USC that ESPN eventually forced the Rose Bowl to start taking high-level non-BCS teams instead of marginally qualified Big Ten or Pac-12 teams). It's to ignore the fact that Zook couldn't go more than three games over .500 in any of his three seasons at Florida, while Urban Meyer turned Zook's players around and won a national championship with them two years later.

Indeed, if there's any long-term method to Illinois' hiring of Zook, it was to replenish the talent stock to competitive levels, then to cut ties at the point when his teams started underachieving so a more disciplined coach can come in and take the program to new heights. Now, the fact that Zook's not only still around but the third-most tenured coach in the Big Ten means that A) it's been a weird decade in the Big Ten and B) Zook's actual accomplishments still do mean something. No coach is going to want to go to a football program that hasn't been to consecutive bowl games in almost 20 years, but will still fire a coach two years off a Rose Bowl bid, after all. Similarly, if Zook keeps getting to the postseason, he'll keep earning his paycheck year after year. So that's why he's still at Illinois and deserves to be.

It's just, well, it's hard to imagine that arrangement holding up on both sides for much longer.

*Incidentally, that touchdown proved to be the difference-maker for Illinois breaking the record; they trailed the 2001 team by the slimmest of margins in PPG (32.50) before Zook called that bootleg. Now, a coach calling for a cheap touchdown long after a bowl game has been decided and his team breaking a program record on that play might just be a coincidence, but we're talking about Ron Zook here.

I think it is fair to assume, the best bowl game this year is the 2011 Tostitos BCS National Championship Game. It involves two teams that have never played for the BCS Title. Both the Ducks and the Auburn Tigers have been snubbed by the BCS before. Finally, you have the PAC 10 vs the SEC for the first time in the BCS Championship Game. With this in mind, this poll does not include the National Championship Game. There are other great games though.

College football's bowl schedule has been released for the 2011-12 season, featuring 35 games over 23 days and ending with the BCS national championship game on Jan. 9 in New Orleans.

The Football Bowl Association says the bowl season will open Dec. 17 with three games - the New Mexico Bowl, Humanitarian Bowl and New Orleans Bowl.

The traditional bowl date of Jan. 1 will have no games because it falls on a Sunday, when the NFL plays a full schedule of games to close its regular season.

The Rose Bowl is Jan. 2, the Sugar is Jan. 3, the Orange is Jan. 4 and the Fiesta is Jan. 5.

No Michigan mascot rival for Brutus, yet

Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon said yesterday that the university has discussed the possibility of a mascot for the Wolverines, but that it's "not an active project."

There was a bit of a stir when Brandon was quoted in the online magazine Michigan Today saying the university is "interested in doing a mascot but it has to be something that fans love."

Brandon said a mascot is something Michigan has discussed because the school wants to connect with younger fans. However, he said there's "no timetable" and no current project to come up with one.

Gophers' leading rusher leaving to be near family

New Minnesota coach Jerry Kill said that leading rusher DeLeon Eskridge is leaving the program because he needs to be closer to home in San Francisco to attend to a family matter.

Eskridge rushed for 698 yards and seven touchdowns last year. Kill said he felt it was in Eskridge's best interests to leave the program before his senior season.

Kill also announced that tight end Tiree Eure was leaving the program because "it just didn't work out."

Tar Heels' stat highlights include parking tickets

A review of records released this week shows that fewer than 12 players at North Carolina tallied 395 parking violations totaling $13,125 from March 2007 through August 2010.

The university had refused requests for the records, which led to a lawsuit by a consortium of media outlets.

The players have paid all but 30 of the tickets totaling $2,035.

USC told Coliseum can't afford $60 million fix

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum said it can't keep a promise to Southern California to make nearly $60 million in sorely needed renovations to the 88-year-old stadium.

Locker rooms are worn and damaged by water leaks, restrooms are too few and malfunction, and concessions lack cash registers and ice machines.

USC could make renovations on its own instead of paying rent to the commission, or leave the publicly owned Coliseum.

University officials signaled that they want to stay at the Coliseum.

Sorry it's taken so long to post my top-25 for this week. But it has been a busy week.

This is the hardest part of the football season. Waiting anxiously for the bowls. And the better the bowl the longer the wait. Unbearable! But things seems to have turned out the way they were supposed to. Oregon versus Auburn. Unless you've been beating the drums for TCU. Don't worry about them. Could any of us imagine a team from a non AQ conference going to the Rose Bowl just a few years ago? But there they are the TCU Horned Frogs going to the Grand Daddy of them all. Plus they will be in a AQ conference next year.

This is my last post until after the bowls have concluded. I would like to thank everyone for reading my blog. One week I got over 4000 hits. That means someone out there is reading it. So thanks.

And now it time for my my top 25 ballot for The Best D@mn Poll In The Land.

1. Oregon - Going to the NC game. And the biggest question is...which uni combo will they
wear? The rest is details. NEXT: Auburn (BCS National Championship Game) LW - 1
2. Auburn - Going to the NC game. And the biggest question is...will Auburn be able to get
through an entire month with out another damaging CamGate revelation?
NEXT: Oregon (BCS National Championship Game) LW - 2
3. TCU - Here ya go Frogs. A big boy game versus a big boy opponent from a big boy
conference. Now all you gotta do is win. Good luck with that.
NEXT: Wisconsin (Rose Bowl) LW - 3
4. Wisconsin - The Badgers Blitzkrieg rushing attack meets the #1 defense in the country.
Something has gotta give. NEXT: TCU (Rose Bowl) LW - 4
5. Stanford - I have them at 5. But the BCS has them at 4. That means they get an auto bid to
a BCS bowl. I say good on them. It would have been a travesty had they been left out for a
lesser team. I only wish they were playing Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. See I like a little
tradition. NEXT: Virginia Tech (Orange Bowl) LW - 5
6. Ohio State - The most outlandish thing they have done in 50 years is wear red helmets. I
can’t wait to see the insanity they try to pull of in 2060. NEXT: Arkansas (Sugar Bowl)
    LW - 6
7. Michigan State - Really regrets not playing Ohio St. right about now. Or losing to Iowa.
One or the other. This is one of the hardest lessons to learn when seeking a BCS bowl bid. It
only takes one loss to screw up a really great season. As much as the Spartans think they are
being jobbed right now. The fact is they only have themselves to blame. They should have
beat Iowa. NEXT: Alabama (Capitol One Bowl) LW - 7
8. Boise State - And as a reward for losing to Nevada they get a bowl...in Nevada. I think
Boise clobbers Utah. But this may be the one time Chris Peterson has to work to get his
team up for a game. NEXT: Utah (Las Vegas Bowl) LW - 8
9. Arkansas - Saw them musing on ESPN wondering if Ohio St. beats the Razorbacks will
they finally be able to say the beat a real SEC team. You know. This SEC team that went
10-2. Give me a break. It will be a moot point if the Razorbacks win. NEXT: Ohio St.
    (Sugar Bowl) LW - 9
10. Oklahoma - Big game Bob is in a BCS game and yet it probably doesn’t feel like as big of
a game as it should. Sooners would be smart not sleep on UConn. The Huskies may be
overmatched. But I suspect these guys won’t go down with out a fight.
NEXT: UConn (Fiesta Bowl) LW - 13
11. Nevada - Wolf Pack draw a Big East team for their Bowl, Boston College. BC is playing
inspired D right now but Kaepernick and company will just be too much for them. Not to
mention BC’s offensive output is worse than Eastern Michigan’s. Don’t expect any Flutie
like Hail Mary’s by BC in this game. NEXT: Boston College (Fight Hunger Bowl)
    LW - 11
12. Virginia Tech - James Madison is almost ancient history now, especially in the minds of
those that have short memories. And the Turkey Birds are playing good ball right now. But
I think they get beat they the ugly tree. NEXT: Stanford (Orange Bowl) LW - 16
13. Nebraska - So close. They had the BigXII-2 championship right in their grasp. And let it
slip away. Or rather Martinez did as he got all butterfingery. Is butterfingery a word? My
spell check says no. NEXT: Washington (Holiday Bowl - Huskies get a redo.) LW - 10
14. Missouri - Is it me or are some great BigXII-2 teams getting every bodies leftovers in the
bowls this year? NEXT: Iowa (Insight Bowl) LW - 12
15. LSU - Like the lucky Mad Hatter he is Les Miles and company have found themselves in
one of the better bowl match ups this year. NEXT: Texas A&M (Cotton Bowl) LW - 14
16. Oklahoma St. - In many ways this team mirrors Oregon teams of the past couple of years.
Explosive offense. Suspect defense. And always finding themselves a brides maid and never
a bride. But I think if the Cowboys can stay the course. Improve that defense just enough
and you just might see them playing in a national championship one of these days.
NEXT: Arizona (Alamo Bowl) LW - 15
17. Texas A&M - Surprise team of the year to me. Now they gotta play the Mad Hatter. I
think if the Aggies want to ensure a victory they need only the rewire the clocks at the
Cotton Bowl and they got this thing in the bag. NEXT: LSU (Cotton Bowl) LW - 19
18. South Carolina - I know they got beat up pretty good by the War Cash Eagles. But I
think Cam Cash and company are playing their best ball right now. So I’m not so inclined
to punish Cocky too much. NEXT: Florida St. (Chick-fil-A Bowl) LW - 17
19. Alabama - The Tide is just waiting for Cam to declare for the draft so they can reclaim
supremacy in the SEC. Which is exactly what will happen.
NEXT: Michigan State (Capitol One Bowl) LW - 18
20. Utah - Has to play Boise State in their bowl. Enjoy your beat down. It isn’t going to be
pretty. NEXT: Boise St. (Las Vegas Beatdown, I mean bowl) LW - 21
21. Hawai’i - I have noticed that Hawai’i spells their name with an apostrophe between the Is.
But we mainlanders refuse to spell it right. But we’re all worried about offending Indians by
using a tribal name as a team name. What is up with that? NEXT: Tulsa (Hawai’i Bowl -
Isn’t it great to have your own bowl?) LW - 22
22. West Virginia - Bet your absolutely kicking yourself over that UConn loss right about
now. NEXT: North Carolina St. (Champs Sports Bowl) LW - 24
23. UCF - Got a pretty good match up with Geogia in a bowl. A win in a bowl versus an SEC
team would look good. Now all you gotta do is win. NEXT: Georgia (Liberty Bowl)
    LW - NR
24. UConn - This is a team that wins U - G - L - Y. But they know how to will themselves to
victory. People say they are going to get creamed by Oklahoma. I’m not so sure.
NEXT: Oklahoma (Fiesta Bowl) LW - NR
25. Florida State - Did the Seminoles do better with out Bobby coaching them this year. I’m
not so sure. But I guess the change needed to be made sooner or later. So the question
is...should Joe Pa go too? I don’t see a difference. NEXT: South Carolina (Chick-fil-A
    Bowl) LW - 20

PULL!!!: Norther Illinois, Maryland

Hoping to win their bowl so they can get on the poll: Maryland, Mississippi State, Navy, San Diego State, Tulsa, Northern Illinois

Wishing they were eligible to go to a bowl so they can get on the poll: USC

I'm not a writer. Just a blogger. So I don't have to be all neutral and stuff. Though I do try to be as much as possible. So I would like to end my regular season Top-25 blog with this:

GO OREGON! WIN THE DAY!

Thank you and have a nice day.

The first PAC 12 Championship Game will be held on Fri, Dec 2, 2011 at 8:00 PM ET when the UCLA Bruins travel to Autzen Stadium in Eugene, OR to play the Oregon Ducks. The Bruins are 6-6 and are coming off a 50-0 blowout loss to their main rival, the USC Trojans. UCLA has been far from stellar this season, and even suffered an embarrassing loss to the non-BCS Houston Cougars in week one.

On the other hand, the Ducks have had a pretty good season. To some Oregon fans, this season might be somewhat of a letdown. Last year, the Ducks were undefeated in the regular season but lost to the Auburn Tigers in the BCS National Championship Game. Many, if not most, Ducks fans were expecting to make it back to the big game again, but had their dreams shattered after losing to the LSU Tigers in week one

The winner clinches a bid to go to the Rose Bowl to face the winner of the Big 10 Championship Game. As 30½-point favorites, is there anyway the Ducks can actually lose to the Bruins? Seriously, does UCLA have any shot at pulling the major upset?

Bentley Williams was the Bachelorette contestant with all the rude and gross quotes of the night.   Why can't Ashley Hebert see through him?  Instead, it seems that Ashley Herbert is really attracted to him and wound up giving him the rose at the end of the evening's group date.  Before she handed over the rose she begged him to stick around.  "ff you feel something for me, please, please, please stick around. Please, please , please." Afterwards Bentley told the cameras " It's almost like the game is over before we hit the start button."

After receiving the rose he jokes “Seriously, I got the rose, can we just bag this and go play Black jack?”

During the cocktail party He brags "It comes down to the fact that i get competitive about everything.  I'd rather be swimming in pee that planning a wedding with her."

He swept her off her feet and carried her down to the fire, but after kissing he starts trashing her to the cameras again saying "I'd be lying to everyone if I was going to be in this for two months."

To top it all off he said, more than a few times, "She's just not my type."  If Ashley could hear him it would go much better for her, because he'd be gone.   Unfortunately,  she just smiled and declared  "To be honest, I have a good radar about sincerity.  I feel something really strong for him-- he could be the one for me."

How disgusted are you with Bentley?
