The Arkansas Razorbacks are ranked in the top 25 in the college football preseason polls, and that is just one of the reasons to get excited about the upcoming season.

The Razorbacks play in the hardest conference in all of college football, so the season will surely be difficult to navigate. The Razorbacks return plenty of experience on both sides of the ball and if things align just right, the Razorbacks could compete for a national title.

The Arkansas fans are dreaming of a championship season, and the sky is the limit for this team.

Here are 10 dream scenarios for the Razorbacks in 2011.

The #3 Arkansas Razorbacks will travel to Baton Rouge, LA to face off against the #1 LSU Tigers. The entire season is on the line in this game with this being the last weekend before conference championships. A win by LSU, and the Tigers clinch the SEC West.

If the Hawgs win, then we have to wait for the final BCS rankings to decide who goes to the SEC Championship Game. Because there will be three one loss SEC West teams if Arkansas loses, the team that goes to the championship is the team that won the heads up battle between the two rated the highest in the BCS rankings.

The Arkansas Razorbacks will welcome the Texas A&M Aggies to the SEC this Saturday in Dallas, TX in a game dubbed The Southwest Classic at Cowboys Stadium

Both teams will be trying to bounce back after tough losses in week four, the Razorbacks were drilled by the Tide and the Aggies blew a 20 to 3 lead in the second half. This game will probably be a shootout.

Arkansas has a high power passing game led by quarterback Tyler Wilson and his group of elite wide receivers. Wilson has completed 81 passes out of 121 attempts for 1,007 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions. Joe Adams, Jarius Wright, Cobi Hamilton and Greg Childs will need to get open and often for Wilson. Hamilton is more of a deep threat, Adams is a dangerous play-maker when the ball in his hands, Wright is more of a possession "go-to" receiver, and Childs has struggled some after recovering from injury and only has four catches this season. The running game is led by Ronnie Wingo, who has rushed for 260 yards so far this season.

Texas A&M has a more balanced attack led by quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The senior has completed 75 of 112 pass attempts for 892 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions. The Aggies should try to run and control the game. The duo of Cyrus Gray and Christine Michael need to have big games to keep the A&M offense balanced. The Razorback defense is like most SEC defenses, big and fast. If the Aggies get predictable, the Hawg defense is good enough to dominate them even without three of their stating defensive ends. Ryan Swope and Jeff Fuller need to get off to a fast start to open up the run game.

The Aggies are favored by three over the Razorbacks, and I think they are going to dominate the Hawgs. I think A&M is simply more balanced on offense and will control the clock. However, their pass defense is not the greatest and Arkansas will try to exploit their weakness. If the Aggies can't get their running game going, then Arkansas could pull the upset. However, I don't think it happens.

Coach Bobby Petrino takes his Arkansas Razorbacks offense to challenge Nick Saban's Alabama Crimson Tide defense in Tuscaloosa, AL in week four of the 2011 College Football Season. The Tide have won four in a row in this series, and were able to pull off the comeback last season after the Hawgs star quarterback, Ryan Mallett, threw two interceptions late in the fourth quarter.

This season, the Razorbacks are led by quarterback Tyler Wilson and his stable of star wide receivers, Greg Childs, Cobi Hamilton, Joe Adams, and Jarius Wright. On the season, Wilson has completed 59 of 86 passes for 822 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions. The Hawgs running game has also been descent after the loss of Knile Davis during sring practice. Arkansas destroyed its first two opponents, but struggled somewhat versus Troy. For them to beat Bama, they can not defeat themselves with turnovers and penalties.

The Crimson Tide's defense has been flat-out nasty this season allowing only six points per game and already shutting out one of its opponents. However, the Tide have yet to face a passing attack as sophisticated as Coach Petrino's. Coach Saban's offense will also have to play better than it has so far this season because they will need to score some points to beat the Razorbacks. He needs running back Trent Richardson to grab the spotlight and show he deserves to be in the Heisman race.

Stat Comparison of the Two Teams
  • Rushing Offense - ranked 52; 170.67 rushing yards per game
  • Passing Offense - ranked 8; 346.67 passing yards per game
  • Total Offense - ranked 11; 517.33 total yards per game
  • Scoring Offense - ranked 8; 47.00 points per game
  • Rushing Defense - ranked 27; 87.67 rushing yards given up per game
  • Pass Defense - ranked 68; 218.00 passing yards given up per game
  • Total Defense - ranked 35; 305.67 total yards given up per game
  • Scoring Defense - ranked 18; 12.67 points given up per game
  • Rushing Offense - ranked 15; 242.00 rushing yards per game
  • Passing Offense - ranked 57; 233.67 passing yards per game
  • Total Offense - ranked 21; 475.67 total yards per game
  • Scoring Offense - ranked 24; 38.67 points per game
  • Rushing Defense - ranked 4; 55.33 rushing yards given up per game
  • Pass Defense - ranked 5; 114.67 passing yards given up per game
  • Total Defense - ranked 3; 170.00 total yards given up per game
  • Scoring Defense - ranked 2; 6.0 points given up per game
Alabama Crimson Tide, Bryant-Denny Stadium

Alabama is favored by 12.5 at home so odds-makers like their defense over Arkansas' offense. I also like the Tide, but that is a lot of points. For the Tide to be able to cover, their offense will have to play better than they have earlier in the season. They haven't faced any serious opponents, thus far, so it is hard to judge how great their defense really is at this point.

On the other hand, the Razorbacks were only able to defeat Troy by ten points at home and their rush defense isn't the best. However, I think they will be able to score to possibly keep them in the game until the fourth quarter. If they were playing at home, I would give them a chance and have Alabama on upset alert. But that's not the case, and the Crimson Tide faithful will be chanting Rammer Jammer at the end of the game.

Currently, the Oregon Ducks are ranked #4 in the BCS behind #3 Alabama, #2 Oklahoma State, and #1 LSU. Directly behind Oregon is Oklahoma at #5 and Arkansas at #6. The following is basically a few notes to consider when voting on this poll:

  • Oregon lost to #1 LSU Tigers
  • The best game left on Oregon's schedule is in this week's game of the week versus #18 USC Trojans.
  • Bama plays an FCS opponent this week, which should hurt them some in the BCS computer rankings.
  • Bama will most likely not play in the SEC Championship Game, and hence, they most likely won't win the SEC Title.
  • Oklahoma will play Oklahoma State in the last game of the season
  • Arkansas will travel to Baton Rouge to play LSU in the last weekend of the regular season
  • If Arkansas beats LSU, then there will be a tie between three one-loss SEC West teams. The SEC decides chooses a divisional representative in this scenario by checking the BCS rankings. If any of the three teams are within five spots of each other, then the SEC Western Title is given to the winner of the heads up match between the two highest ranked teams.
As you can see, there is a great possibility of total anarchy occurring this season. The question is, however...

Can the Oregon Ducks get to the BCS National Championship Game?

Through week 11 of the 2011 college football season, the Oregon Ducks find themselves ranked number four in the BCS rankings and one place behind the Alabama Crimson Tide. Both teams have one loss and are contending for a spot in the BCS National Championship. The two both lost to the same opponent, the LSU Tigers

The Ducks lost to LSU in the Cowboys Classic season opener in Dallas, Texas, but have since won nine games in a row including wins versus the #18 Arizona State Sun Devils and the #4 Stanford Cardinal. The Ducks have the 8th best offense in the nation, but the 63rd best defense...it is typical for teams that run an uptempo spread like the Ducks to suffer in defensive statistical categories due to quick scoring and less time of possession.

Alabama, on the other hand, lost to LSU in week 11 at home 9-6 in overtime. The Tide missed 4 field goals, 3 in regulation and 1 in overtime. Bama has won 10 games including against #6 Arkansas Razorbacks, #12 Florida Gators, and #23 Penn State Nittany Lions. Alabama has the #1 defense in the nation and #35 offense.

Are the Oregon Ducks better than the Alabama Crimson Tide?

What a great weekend it was. Let me start you off with Saturday and another BIG PLAY WINNER FROM THEWINNINGWAGERS.COM Tennessee Mississippi over 55! That was our 10 unit play that we were sending out to everyone to come get on. It was already over 55 before the 4th quarter ever started.  Easy Easy money. Oklahoma Sooners -14 against Texas Tech Red Raiders . Another Easy Easy money play.  The Sooners returning home after a few rough weeks. We all know that Oklahoma is another team at home. With Texas Tech struggling hard this year on defense.  Easy pick take the Sooners minus the points. Another Easy winner. Arkansas Razorbacks UTEP over 60.5  Another easy winner with the half time score 28-14 who cares who has the 28 or 14. With UTEP being a Conference USA team that means they have no defense.  However I have seen UTEP play not a bad offense at all. With that being said Arkansas not the best defense I was actually suprised that they put that many points up against Arkansas. Final score 58-21 another Easy Easy money bet. Sunday New York Jets -2.5 against the Cleveland Browns (The Post Season Slayers).  Cleveland has been looking hot as of late. Beating New England Patriots 2 weeks ago and the New Orleans Saints the week before.  However, I just didnt see Cleveland and Colt McCoy taking down the three quality NFL post season teams 3 weeks in a row. We also had the under in this game and it got blown in the very last drive. Hey what are you going to do you cant win them all. Tampa Bay Bucs -7 against the Carolina Panthers. Your free pick yesterday hope you all that don't buy the sport picks took advantage of the free pick. Another easy pick, Tampa Bay being one of the hottest teams in the NFL going against the struggling Carolina Panthers that are injury filled and no one is having trouble beating them. We knew that Tampa would easily run away with this one. Florida St -14 against NC Greensboro. One of my favorite sports is NCAA mens college basketball.  Just an easy pick dont have much to say about this one. Just knew Florida State Seminoles were the winner. I mean come on they are favored by 14 on the road that means NC Greensboro has to be bad. I also have some family in Tallahassee, Florida a little inside talk from them gave me the nod on taking them. Dont even wanna talk about the Kansas City Chiefs and their defense. Or the Pittsburgh Steelers allowing more points at Soldier Field than probably the history of its existence. So for the weekend your 10 unit winner, plus 2 more units for Saturday a juiced Sunday however your up almost 13 units. I will take it every weekend if I could. Let's get started today with The Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Reskins Let us know what you think Leave a comment!!

The Florida Gators were finally able to emerge from their offensive slump as Freshman Trey Burton took over their game against Kentucky and scored an SEC record of 6 Touchdowns over the passed weekend. The Gators had struggled offensively in their first three games of the season, something unprecedented and unexpected in the Urban Meyer Era. However, it seems as though they may have resolved their offensive struggles just in time as they go into Tuscaloosa to take on the Tide this Saturday. It will mark the first game the Gators enter as underdogs since 2007.

Alabama, on the otherhand, did not seem as dominant as they had in the first three weeks of the season against the Arkansas Razorbacks. If Ryan Mallett did not throw two ill-advised interceptions when the Hogs had the lead with less than six minutes to go, then Alabama may have lost its first regular season game in 3 years. Ironically, the last time they lost in the regular season was to Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators. Mallett seemed to be able to exploit Bama's young DB's for much of the game, but they were able to pull it together when it mattered the most.

Who will win this weekend? Will Trey Burton be able to take over the game against Alabama and go Touchdown Crazy, or will Mark Ingram and the Tide wear out the Florida D and continue their regular season winning streak?

Mike Dyer was ESPN's #1 ranked running back coming out of high school. Dyer, from Little Rock Christian Academy in Arkansas, played his first college football game for the Auburn Tigers on Saturday, September 4. He carried the ball 14 times, gained 95 yards averaging 6.8 a carry, and scored 1 touchdown. The Auburn Tigers were playing Arkansas State, clearly a team beneath them. So was a 6.8 avg that impressive and a statment of deserving that #1 high school back status? In other words, did he live up to expectations?

In the last two weeks against the USC Gamecocks and Arkansas Razorbacks, the Auburn Tigers struggled to get in rhythm on offense. The Tigers offense was made one dimensional. They were able to run the ball, but were completely incapable of moving the ball down the field through the air to keep the opposing defenses honest.

Following the Arkansas loss, it appeared Auburn would enter practice this week with a quarterback controversy. Starting quarterback Barrett Trotter has steadily struggled more and more each week this season. Against the Hawgs, he only completed 6 of 19 passes (31.6 CMP%) for 81 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. However, Coach Gene Chizik squashed all innuendo about who will be starting this weekend by unequivocally supporting and stating he is sticking with Trotter and is not considering making the change to true freshman Khiel Frazier

Part of Trotter's struggles can be attributed to a lack of depth at the wide receiver position after two players, Shaun Kitchens and Antonio Goodwin, were kicked off the team in the off-season. Auburn's current top two wide receivers, Emory Blake and Travon Reed, were injured last week for the Arkansas game and it is uncertain whether they will play against the Gators or not.

Trotter has also not received any help from the WR's filling in. They dropped five passes against Arkansas. There is no excuse for WR's at this level to drop balls that hit them between the numbers, but that is exactly what Auburn receivers have done the last few weeks. DeAngelo Benton and Travonte Stallworth really need to step it up this game to compliment the rushing game led by Michael Dyer and Ontario McCalebb. Dyer is fully capable of carrying this team, but it is impossible for him to do so if defenses have zero fears of Auburn's passing game. If this is the case against the Gators, they will load the box and are capable of stopping a one dimensional running offense.

The Gators come into Jordan-Hare Stadium with the 11th ranked team in total defense, but are struggling even more than Auburn on the offensive side of the ball. The Gators starting quarterback, Jonathon Brantley, was injured two weeks ago against the Alabama Crimson Tide and will miss his second game in a row. To add insult to injury, the Gators backup quarterback, Jeff Driskel, is also injured. Coach Will Muschamp says it is a game time decision as to whether Driskel will be able to go or if 3rd string quarterback, Jacoby Brissett, will get the start.

The Gators will most likely look to rely on their versatile running backs, Jeffrey Demps and Chris Rainey, to carry the load and take some of the pressure off either of the young quarterbacks. The two were wrecking havoc on defenses until they faced LSU and Alabama. Fortunately for them, while Auburn's defense has steadily been getting better, it is nowhere close to on par with those other two teams. However, the Tigers will try to make Florida beat them through the air like they did South Carolina two weeks ago. They were able to completely shut down Marcus Lattimore by loading the box, but Stephen Garcia was incapable of making them pay for it.

Florida is favored by 1.5 points. For the Tigers to win this game, they must be able to stop the Gators rushing attack and get more offensive production from the passing game. Their special teams play, which has been stellar all season, will need to once again help the Tigers control field position. If they can do all these things and avoid turnovers and penalties, they should be in a position to win this game.

The Georgia Bulldogs began the 2011 college football season by losing their first two games versus the Boise State Broncos and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Since then, the Bulldogs have won five in a row and seem to be on a roll.

The Dawgs have only lost one conference game, and find themselves currently tied with the Gamecocks for first in the SEC East. For UGA to win the SEC East, they need the Gamecocks to lose another game in the SEC, which is likely since they are decimated with injuries and still have to play Tennessee Volunteers, Florida Gators, and Arkansas Razorbacks. They will also have to face those opponents without their best player, RB Marcus Lattimore

UGA still has Florida, Auburn Tigers, and Kentucky Wildcats left on their SEC schedule. Florida currently finds itself in a similar situation as South Carolina with key injuries to quarterback John Brantley and RB Jeff Demps. Auburn is extremely young and inconsistent. Their offense has struggled badly in the last three or four weeks. Kentucky is Kentucky, and they should be an easy win for UGA.

Georgia has one of the easiest SEC schedules this season because they did not have to play LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, or Arkansas.  Georgia's remaining SEC schedule is also easier than the Gamecocks remaining SEC games. Georgia does, however, have to play the Gators next weekend, which has been a hurdle Georgia has rarely been able to overcome in the last 30 years.

Will the Georgia Bulldogs win the SEC East?

Clemson added heavily recruited running back Zac Brooks (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) of Jonesboro, Ark., to its 2012 recruiting class.

Brooks, who can also play receiver, picked the Tigers over Auburn, Notre Dame and Arkansas.

Brooks spent much of last week at Clemson for camp, and his time there convinced him it was the right place for him.

“I think God placed it in my heart,” Brooks said. “I felt the instant connection with the people I was with. I talked to the players, coaches, staff, and I just felt comfortable talking with everybody.”

Brooks has 4.4-second speed in the 40-yard dash. Last season he rushed for 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns and caught 32 passes for 200 yards and two scores.

From a football standpoint, he believes Clemson will get the most out of him. “I feel it’s a great opportunity for me bettering myself and trying to play pro football,” he said. “From what coach (Chad) Morris tells me, it will be very hard to shut that offense down.”

Brooks is the 11th commitment for Clemson’s 2012 class. He will enroll next summer.

Jeff Peterson’s search for a new school will start with a visit to Florida State University this weekend, according to Jeff Goodman from CBS Sports.

Peterson, a 6-foot-0 point guard, is looking to transfer from Arkansas where he played as a junior this past season.

Peterson played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Iowa under former coach Todd Lickliter before transferring to Arkansas in 2009. Peterson said last week that he would consider returning to Iowa for his senior season under current Iowa coach Fran McCaffery if he felt the circumstances were right.

McCaffery is entering his second season as the Iowa coach. He took over in March 2010 shortly after Lickliter was fired after just three seasons on the job.

Peterson, who is a native of Springfield, Mo., said he still needs to finish taking two classes this summer to graduate, which is part of the requirement for him to be eligible next season at a Division I school.

He decided to transfer from Arkansas after John Pelphrey was fired as the Arkansas coach shortly after last season and replaced by former Missouri coach Mike Anderson.

Peterson also last week mentioned Texas A&M, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Boston College as schools he might consider. He didn’t return a phone call Wednesday afternoon.

McCaffery still has one scholarship available, and for a while this spring, he was looking to sign a point guard.

However, California high school point guard Cezar Guerrero picked Oklahoma State over Iowa this spring and Cedar Rapids Washington point guard Wes Washpun picked Tennessee over Iowa.

McCaffery said in May that it was unlikely that he would sign another player this spring or summer, but he didn’t rule out the possibility of somebody transferring into the program.

McCaffery is prohibited from commenting on Peterson’s situation because Peterson is considered just like a recruit until he signs with another school. Coaches are prohibited from talking publicly about a recruit before the recruit has signed a letter of intent.
