Several Congressman are calling for the Obama administration to prosecute Julian Assange and shut down his Wikileaks operation after the organization published another 251,287 government documents on Sunday, November 28th. The documents contain sensitive material that is potentially harmful to US diplomacy and its image in the world.

Many Republicans want the Obama administration to label Wikileaks a terrorist organization. Congressman Peter King (R-NY) alleges Wikileaks is "engaged in terrorist activity. What they're doing is clearly aiding and abetting terrorist groups." King has asked Attorney General, Eric Holder, to prosecute Assange under the Espionage Act.

Democrats have also been calling for the prosecution of Assange and Wikileaks. In a similar tone as King, Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO), stated "the people who do these document leaks need to do a gut check about their patriotism...I hope we can find out where this is coming from and go after them with the force of law."

Should Julian Assange, founder of WIkileaks, be prosecuted for releasing Classified Government Documents?

this [CENSORED] is not only endangering troops, civilians, and foreign relations, but also making not only the US, but a host of other countries more and more targets to terrorism and hatred, this borders on the antichrist and biblical matters as we've all heard in the end of days. Damn the press for bringing attention to them, for posting their CLASSIFIED documents, ANYONE who is involved with them should all be SHOT!!!  -Jp33p CO/USA

Don't know about shooting people, but those releasing this information are somewhat ignorant to the harm they could be causing.

It is clear Assange has a personal vendetta against the US government, as he does not solicit similar damaging documents that would go against any other government. Most of these "damaging" comments do not show anything more than dinner table chat. We've all complained about a colleague at home, while putting on a professional face at the office. I don't believe his purpose is to better the world, but to weaken the US government, and ultimately cause the US to fail. He's vocal in his sentiments about war, that's his motive. He's reckless, petty, and endangering a entire nation's national security! I'd like to see him print classified documents of China, Russia, or Iran - he knows the consequences would be grave. Unbiased Journalism?? I think not!

I'd say Assange only releases documents concerning the US because the US is the one with their military in over 130 countries and 700 bases.

It is the US that is at war with 3 countries.

It is the US that is at war with a country, Iraq, for absolutely no reason.

It is the US that repeatedly violates Human Rights and the Geneva Conventions by using Torture as a form of interrogation....do you want me to keep going?

It is the US that is estimated to have killed over 1 million people in Iraq.

It is the US that created 3 million Iraqi Refugees.

When I visit other countries, in Asia in particular, it is the US and their military wielding weapons.

Ya, nothing damaging about killing scores of innocent civilians and then being so barbaric about it, that we just label them collateral damage because they are Arab and not American...nice and racist...their life doesn't matter, its just collateral damage...

And by the way, he has released documents from pretty much everyone of those countries

Moses:  I have an older brother who is intimidating, sometimes a bully, a good, dependable husband and father, is financially successful, and quite opinionated.  He is a pain at times, but I love him and would defend him to the death if he were threatened.  I feel the same way about the U.S.

I agree with Tamara. The US isn't perfect, but they have done more for global good and our good than not.

Moses, I see you're well read on your facts about US war involvement. However, if you feel that the US is the most severe violator of Geneva, if you feel the US is the only country that has reports of torture,  or started a war for "no reason" (still debated, my friend), then you are obviously NOT well read on the policies and practices of other countries. Some of these countries do this to their citizens DAILY, the US does this in times of war. No doubt there is lots of room for perfection, but lets not pretend that they they are the worst. I'd like to hear your comments on China, Saudi, Iraq and others with regards to human rights and torture....let's compare apples to apples and see who's more barbaric. It's easy to nag on the US because we have freedom of speech. In the countries I mentioned - they don't even give you that!

And how is the US threatened?

Ask the family members of the victims of 9/11... ask anyone that was in New York or flying that day!! I REALLY hope that you remove yourself from  this country that you have NO respect for and move to one that you can be proud of!! Good luck finding one!!!!

How is the US NOT threatened?? That's ignorant. The US has been under attack for years. By militants, by people infiltrating systems from the inside, and by others like you who fail to see the injustice that is happening to a country that spent all it's history protecting human rights.

Of course there is the racist question, but it's not one sided like you say! I think it's funny how people complain about the US (mainly the middle easterners due to recent history) but they don't admit the faults of their own home countries.

Does anyone else find it hypocritical that those individuals valiantly defend the middle east and complain about this country, yet refuse to live THERE??? Please honestly tell me you have more human rights on the other side of the ocean than we have here, then lets talk about fixing the US. You can't have your cake and eat it too!

There should be a law against releasing, obtaining or soliciting classified documents. It's a form of internal TERRORISM. If he obtained information on his own (evidence of crimes, corruption), he can publish what he obtains legally as a journalist. He's stealing and spying. If I can't do this to my neighbor, why can he do this to the government??

Can't have freedom of speech, if we don't have a way to protect it, and Wikileaks undermines that.

I don't need to repeat - don't kill the messenger but I did. His sources have been are and can be held responsible for their actions. But The original damage that is being exposed was not done by either. Detest biblical references but not only those who live by the sword, die by the sword - the truth shall set you free, you do the crime you do the time, but in addition, judge not least ye be judged.

Listen to the guy. Look at what has been done in the name of religion and the integrity of "the state" - Get the book All I need to know I learned from Watching Star Trek - then get back to me. Socialism is not the answer. Just ask the former USSR. We don't live in a democracy but a republic and if we played the game of capitalism correctly as he have since 1776 everything would be OK now. Take a look at the Venus Project - think about the world's potential. Realize the flower children of the 60's were right.

"played the game of capitalism" ?  Are you saying that profit should be the only compass by which our government should have governed?  That's how we got into most of the mess our country and citizens are suffering through right now.

Or did you mean republicanism or democracy?  If all we cared about was capitalism, we would have fought for the Nazis, after all they were the most successful world leaders at the time.  When does morality or just doing the right thing come into capitalism?  Never.  Capitalism is commerce. It should not dictate social policy or goverment.

Just giving you the benefit of the doubt and presuming you have taken Macro and Micro economics in college, understand the concepts of relative and absolute advantage / supply and demand - and that while barter is a wonderful idea in the from the beginning of the Industrial revolution and actually quite a bit before it became impractical. Money is only a vehicle - a medium of exchange. You suggestion of the extremes are non-sequitur. I have no love of capitalism from my own personal standpoint. I'm dirt poor. But going backwards not only cannot be done it doesn't have to. Before you think in terms of "absolutes" perhaps if you stop living in a vacuum you'll get a clue. Cheers.

Hey all, I have a Question I asked on here about Wikileaks:

yes, they stole information (files) that did not belong to them (or the person who gave it to them).

If the person who gave them that information was in those conversations, fine, but otherwise, that's stolen property. Would you like someone taping your conversations or bugging your home to see if you said something wrong about your boss? Same deal.
