In Desperate Housewives, Lynette's mother tells her she wants to get re-married for money. This upsets Lynette and when she tries to talk to her husband about it, he makes a joke about how when the wealthy man dies her mother will inherit all the money; then, when her mother dies, they will inherit the money. He concludes it's a win, win situation. As crude as he may have sounded, he does have a point. Even if your mom didn't actually love the guy, at least she would be spoiled for the rest of her life. Why should she sit at home alone when she could travel the world or enjoy luxuries she never has before. Your mom and the man would eventually at least become friends and could be life partners.
