It's hard to remember a time before American Idol. It has changed the face of the entertainment world. The alums have an impressive line up of who's who. It would be hard to debate which former contestant is the most successful ever. Is it our first American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson? She has sold over 10.5 million CDs in the U.S. and is the only American Idol to reach number one in the UK. Is it Carrie Underwood? She has sold over 12 million CDs in the U.S. Or what about Jennifer Hudson, the only American Idol winner to win an Oscar. And we can't forget Chris Daughtry. He had the fastest debuting rock album in history,1 million CDs in the first 5 weeks. Who do you think should win the debate over the most successful contestant ever on American Idol?
Have you ever wondered why Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, and David Cook, all past American Idol winners, never made the splash that Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood did? Some believe it's a matter of developing more originality. Jimmy Lovine, the new American Idol "in-house mentor" says he will "help make sure we find an original voice - somebody with originality...." Jimmy also states that "in the past, they weren't getting the proper help to improve." On a show like American Idol they rake in tons of talent and some of the "losing" contestants have extreme musical ability and extreme promise. Many former contestants have made quite a splash in the entertainment industry. Many may make a dent in the future, only time will tell. Which former contestant, that didn't win on American Idol, has the most talent?
I think I know what people like and after ten seasons of American Idol I'm certain we're all still crazy for American idol. It delivers the good, the bad and the ugly as far as talent goes and it's so much fun to watch the auditions. Now American Idol has decided to release what the show considers to be a "greatest hits" compilation by past contestants in celebration of it's 10th anniversary. This album will spotlight it's best and will hit stores March 15, 2011. It includes Kellie Clarkson's #1 "Since You've Been Gone", Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats", Daughtry's #1 ballad "Home", Jordan Sparks "No Air", David Cook's "Light On", Fantasia's "When I See You", Ruben Studdard's "Superstar", Clay Akins' "Invisible", Adam lambert's "Whataya Want From Me", and Lee DeWyze's "Sweet Serendipity". I think the first half of the album is going to sound great, but the second half - not so much... except for maybe Lambert's contribution. That's what I'm thinking for now, but I'll have a listen soon and will probably change my mind. How about you? What do you think of the choices on the 10th Anniversary American Idol compilation album
American Idol premiere ratings were down 13% from last season. Then on Thursday night they were down 18% for the more youthful audience. So what's up with that? Maybe the ratings are down because Simon Cowell is no longer on the show. Simon has become an American Idol icon over the years and his departure from the show will certainly be noticed. That is one change that has me worried. Perhaps all the hype in the media about this season's new changes, prior to the first episode, had more of a negative effect than a positive one. The changes were multiple and designed to improve the show, and so far I think they have improved it. Perhaps the perspective audience picked up on the underlying connotation, the show must be pretty bad if it has to be fixed.I love American Idol, old and new. The changes for the season are well thought out and proving positive. I think the judges so far are awesome, ten times better than Paula or Kara. I think the ratings will improve greatly over the next few weeks. What do you think is up with the ratings?
As part of the restructuring of American Idol, the producers decided to skip the top 24 contestant format and go directly to the top 12. Do you think this change will be an improvement?
