Michigan State secured the 10th verbal commitment for its 2012 recruiting class when running back Nick Tompkins out of Snellville, Ga., said he would attend MSU, according to Rivals.com.

Tompkins, a three-star recruit according to Rivals, picked the Spartans over offers from Wisconsin, California, Maryland, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Purdue, West Virginia and Boston College, among others.

Tompkins plays at Brookville High School and is a former teammate there of current Spartan Andre Sims, Jr.

The Michigan State Spartans travel to Lincoln, NE to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers for the first time as a Big Ten Conference and fellow Legends Division opponent. MSU is currently first in the Big Ten Legends Division, but Nebraska can lay claim to that spot if they were able to upset the Spartans.

Nebraska has beaten MSU all five times they've played in history, most recently they defeated the Spartans 17-3 in the 2003 Alamo Bowl. If Nebraska would like to continue the winning streak, Taylor Martinez and the Cornhuskers offense will have to be able to throw the ball because MSU's defense is too good for them to be as one dimensional as they have been all season and get the win.

As the week moves along, I will be updating and adding to this post with important information concerning the game such as injury reports and the Vegas odds.

Michigan State vs Nebraska Can the Cornhuskers upset the Spartans?

The Wisconsin Badgers will face the Michigan State Spartans on Sat, Dec 3 at 8:00 PM ET in Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis, IN. The Badgers find themselves currently ranked 15 in the BCS Standings, and are two last second plays away from being undefeated and in perfect position to play in the BCS National Championship game. They will be looking for revenge against the Spartans because one of those last second plays occurred to them the first time these teams met in the regular season. In that game, MSU quarterback, Kirk Cousins, beat Wisconsin by throwing a 44 yard Hail Mary to Keith Nichol as time ran out. After having the very same thing happen to them a week later against the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Badgers have now won four in a row.

Michigan State is currently ranked 13 in the BCS Standings due to losses versus the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Like the Badgers, the Spartans enter the inaugural Big 10 Championship Game having won their last four games in a row.

These teams are very evenly matched up. Last time they played, the game came down to the final play. I expect the same to occur in the Championship Game. I give Wisconsin a slight nod because of quarterback Russell Wilson and running back Montee Ball. They will be the two best players on the field. The winner of this game will face the winner of the inaugural PAC 12 Championship Game between UCLA and Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

In last week's game between the Michigan State Spartans versus the Michigan Wolverines, MSU linebacker William Gholston is caught on camera committing two flagrantly dirty plays. As the video shows, in one instance, he punches a Michigan lineman, Taylor Lewan, and in the other he is seen diving on top of Michigan quarterback and Heisman Trophy hopeful Denard Robinson and twisting his neck and head using his facemask.

The refs caught the dirty play Gholston committed against Robinson and flagged him for a 15 yard personal foul. However, the refs did not see the punch Gholston threw and landed on Taylor, and he was able to get away with it. He should have kicked out of the game and suspended for the first half of the next game.

Though Gholston was not caught in the game, he was clearly caught on camera. Michigan State is currently looking into the situation. The Big 10 and the NCAA has not gotten involved yet, and most likely won't until after the Spartans make their decision as what they should do. Many analysts in the media believe he should be suspended by MSU, and if not by MSU then the Big 10 should step in and do it.

Do you agree?

Should MSU LB William Gholston be suspended for dirty plays against UM?

MT. PLEASANT -- Former Farmington Hills Harrison quarterback Tommy Vento is following in the footsteps of two other former Harrison stars, Mill (The Thrill) Coleman and the Lions' Drew Stanton, by heading to Michigan State to play football.

At least, he hopes so.

At the 31st annual Michigan All-Star Football game Saturday at Central Michigan, Vento said he's a preferred walk-on for the fall at MSU. He said the business school there attracted him on the education side of the equation.

"To be honest, I felt like for me, even if you call it stupidity, call it arrogance, I just thought anything less than (Division I) was just settling," Vento said. "So I just wanted to try and make it in the big time, whatever that means. I just want to play another down, however that is, Michigan State or elsewhere.

"I really like the business school, but I also have some friends going there, and I really like the coaching staff. I just didn't feel like it was a negative decision in any way."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Vento led Harrison to the Division 2 state championship last season. In the title game win over Lowell, he completed 19 of 32 passes for 310 yards -- second most in state finals history -- and three touchdowns.

"Coach (John Herrington) has never tried to push me in any direction," Vento said. "He knows different people thrive in different places. He told me wherever I wanted to go he hopes I can do well. I told him I wanted to go to Michigan State, and he supported me all the way."

Vento's stats at Harrison included 2,803 passing yards and 31 touchdowns last season. He completed 156 of 276 passes (56.5%) and was intercepted 12 times.

Wide receiver Takudzwa Kubvoruno of Gull Lake, who reportedly also will be a preferred walk-on at MSU this fall, caught three passes for 50 yards in the All-Star game, the longest a 31-yard grab.

In week three of the 2011 college football season, the Michigan State Spartans are at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. If you have watched the Irish's first two games, then you know this is a very good football team. However, you also know they are turnover prone and have lost their first two games because of that. Michigan State enters South Bend undefeated, and the Spartans hope to remain that way following the game.

Stat Comparison of the Two Teams
  • Rushing Offense - ranked 57th; 157.50 rushing yards per game
  • Passing Offense - ranked 10th; 436.50 passing yards per game

While the statistics may suggest Michigan St should have no problem defeating Notre Dame, the are misleading. The Spartans have played all inferior teams this season. Notre Dame, on the other hand, has played two BCS opponents.

I like Notre Dame this week. There is no way they have 5 turnovers, yet again. If they can avoid the turnovers, they should be able to defeat the Spartans. Their offense has been really good and their defense has been good enough. The Irish are currently 4.5 point favorites, and I'd expect them to cover!

UPDATE
Notre Dame took a 21 to 10 lead into the half and continued where they left off in the third. On their first possession of the second half, the Irish 71 yards for the touchdown. Their defense has only given up 29 yards rushing on the ground. The Irish may be up 28 to 10, but they did have two turnovers, which should concern their fans. They just can't seem to resolve this issue.

UPDATE
In the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Spartans were able to add a field goal, making the score 28-13 with eleven minutes left in the fourth.

UPDATE
Notre Dame was set to put this game away with five minutes left in the fourth as they forced Michigan State to punt. However, the Irish, yet again, turned the ball over as punt returner, John Goodman, fumbled the kick and the Spartans recovered.

UPDATE
Notre Dame was able to get an interception at their two yard line to keep the Spartans from getting back in this game. The score is currently 28-13 with three and a half minutes left in the game.
