The Alabama Crimson Tide lost a defensive slugfest versus the LSU Tigers at home in Bryant-Denny Stadium. The final score was 9-6 that ended in overtime, but Bama missed four field goals in the game. This left many unsure of who has the better team. Do you want to see an Alabama vs LSU rematch in the BCS Championship Game?
The Clemson Tigers will face the Virginia Tech Hokies in Charlotte, NC on Sat, Dec 3 at 8:00 PM ET in the 2011 ACC Championship Game for a spot in a BCS Bowl Game. These two teams met in week five when Clemson dominated the Hokies in their house 23-3. At that time, the Tigers were on fire. They beat the Auburn Tigers, the FSU Seminoles, and then the Hokies in a row. Since their first meeting, the Hokies have been dominating their competition and enter the ACC Championship with a seven game winning streak. The Tigers, on the other hand, have struggled, losing three of their last four games. Generally speaking, Clemson has the better offense and VA Tech has the better defense. I expect a better game this time around. The Tigers have lost whatever spark was carrying them earlier in the season, and the Hokies seemed to have found it. I think the Hokies will not only win this game, but they will completely turn the tide on the Tigers and dominate them. What do you think?Clemson vs Virginia Tech Who will win the ACC Championship Game?

The 2011 BCS National Championship Game between Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers was the most boring title game I have ever watched. It was completely one-sided with Alabama dominating LSU 21-0. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of defensive slugfests and thoroughly enjoyed the first LSU vs Alabama game in Tuscaloosa. This game, however, was not comparable to the first match. The Tide dominated LSU in every aspect of the game...offense, defense, and special teams. They held LSU to only 92 total yards of offense while racking up 384 of their own. It wasn't, however, just a matter of Alabama's defense dominating the game, but also LSU's offense played horrible. Jordan Jefferson fumbled several snaps and missed open wide receivers. The offensive line could not block and create passing lanes for him to find his receivers. Alabama's AJ McCarron played an outstanding game throwing the ball through tight windows to receivers covered by LSU DB's. In particular, he picked on Tyrann Mathieu, "The Honey Badger," and took advantage of his size by throwing the ball out of his reach to taller receivers. Though he did not have any touchdown passes, McCarron did complete 23 or 34 passes (67.6 CMP%) for 234 yards and a long of 26. The only bright spot in LSU's play was that its defense only gave the Tide one touchdown. Bama, once again, was forced to rely on its field goal unit, but this time Jeremy Shelley, the goat from the first game, set a BCS Title game record by making five field goals. In the regular season, if you recall, he missed four field goals allowing LSU to beat Bama in Tuscaloosa. In the game that mattered the most, Shelley was able to redeem himself.Besides blocking one of Shelley's field goals, LSU's special teams were also overwhelmed by Bama. Marquis Maze got the Tide rolling in the first quarter with a 49 yard punt return leading to the first field goal of the game. Though Maze was injured on the play, Bama's punt return and coverage teams were still able to provide them with good field position all game. LSU's punt coverage also assisted the Tide by roughing the punt returner at the ten yard line after he called a fair catch. Instead of giving Alabama the ball at the 10, they gave it to them at the 25. LSU's punter actually kicked pretty well. However, their return game with Mathieu was completely shut down.Coach Nick Saban also out-coached Coach Les Miles. His team was fully prepared for everything LSU's offense and defense tried to do. Miles tried to get the option game going, which was successful the first time around, but Alabama was ready for it and Miles seemed to refuse to go away from it even though it was clearly not working. It didn't seem as though Miles made half time adjustments. They came out and threw the ball down the field twice, which was different than the first half, but then went back to the same basic offense using option, WR screens, and running the HB on dives or off tackle. It was truly a very bland offense and was similar to the one they ran against the Tide in game one. Though Jefferson was clearly struggling, Miles kept him in and chose not to use Jarrett Lee. In my opinion, this was a mistake because Lee has started and played many games this season and may have been able to provide a spark.Saban's offense, on the other hand, came out throwing the football down the field, something they did not do in the first match up. It seemed to catch LSU by surprise. The Tigers were stacking the box and playing man on the Bama's WR's. Saban purposely picked on Mathieu by using tall receivers to go over top of the 5'8" DB. Mathieu may have been a game changer in LSU's games against West Virginia Mountaineers, Arkansas Razorbacks, Oregon Ducks, and Georgia Bulldogs, however, he was not attacked the way Saban targeted him in this game. He usually covers slot receivers that are similar in height. In this game, Saban lined up tall receivers and tight ends in the slot, which Mathieu defend against high, jump balls.Alabama's defense was definitely the highlight of the game, however, LSU's offense assisted them by playing terribly. The Tigers offense committed numerous penalties and missed many opportunities by Jefferson's inability to execute properly. He missed several wide open WR's, throwing the ball in the grass and nowhere near them on multiple occasions. His biggest mistake came when he attempted a shovel pass after his receiver had turned to block for him. The pass was picked off and led to points, and pretty much ended any hopes LSU had of coming back.Had LSU played good and this was a good, defensive game, then I would have loved it. However, LSU played awful, and it wasn't merely due to Bama's dominance. They simply didn't execute, and it was the combo of bad offensive play by LSU and great defensive play by Bama. It was also a combo of poor LSU pass defense and McCarron executing to perfection which allowed Bama to drive down the field on almost every possession.Simply put, I think LSU played awful! This game was disappointing. LSU could have possibly finished the greatest single season in college football with a win, but instead they came out flat, unprepared, and were embarrassed. It is the first time a team was completely shut out in the title game, and there is no excuse for that. What do you think...Was this the worst BCS National Championship Game in History
Arkansas Razorbacks wide receiver, Joe Adams, made one of the greatest plays I have ever seen. You can see it in the video above. He breaks at least six Tennessee Volunteers attempted tackles before taking it to the house. It was damn impressive. Will Joe Adams punt return versus Tennessee win play of the year? Penn State University Nittany Lions are in the midst of a major sexual molestation crises involving their former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. The Attorney General of Pennsylvania released documents that included information on what Legendary Coach Joe Paterno knew and did regarding the scandal. It revealed in 2002, "JoePa" was made aware Sandusky and what appeared to be a ten year old boy were in the shower together in the football dressing room by a graduate assistant. It is also known JoePa waited one night and then relayed the information to the Athletic Director but did nothing else. And because of this, some are calling for him to be gone.Should Joe Paterno resign be fired or continue as Head Coach at Penn State University?
The Big East may be the premier college basketball conference, but it absolutely stinks in college football. Last season, a Big East team got to go to a BCS game even though no teams in the Big East were in the final BCS Top 25. This year, only the West Virginia Mountaineers are currently ranked, and they are only the 23rd best team in the nation. In my opinion this is undeserving of a BCS Bowl Game and allowing them to go is rewarding mediocrity. Next year, the Big East will lose WVU, the Pittsburgh Panthers, and the Syracuse Orange because they are leaving the conference to join the Big 12 (WVU) and the ACC (Pitt and Syracuse). Once the Mountaineers and Panthers leave the conference, the Big East will no longer have any tradition or history of great football. It will be a conference made up of second and third class teams.I obviously think they should lose their automatic bid already, and I don't think I really need to spend too much time explaining my argument because most people, including the media, agree with me. If you disagree, then please let me know why in the comments below.Should the Big East lose its automatic bid to a BCS Bowl Game?
On January 9, 2012, the Alabama Crimson Tide dominated the LSU Tigers for the 2011 BCS Championship Title. Following the game, several Bama fans visited a Krystal's burger restaurant and found an extremely intoxicated and unconscious LSU fan laying his head on a counter. As can be seen in the video, Bama fans begin to harass and play pranks on the guy. What seems like just a little fun, suddenly takes an awkward turn as one Bama fan decides to remove his testicles from his trousers and place them on the passed out LSU fan. This act is known as tea-bagging. The LSU fan is a complete stranger. If such an act occurred among friends, it might be laughed off. However, this is not what occurred, and according to NOLA.com the police is looking for the Bama fan to charge him with committing a sexual battery. Has this gone a little too far? Should this be just laughed off as a drunken prank, or is it a crime that should be prosecuted?
In week 12 of the BCS standings, the LSU Tigers were ranked #1, the Alabama Crimson Tide were ranked #3, and the Oregon Ducks were ranked #4. Of these teams, only LSU controls its destiny after having defeated both the Ducks in week 1 at a neutral site in Dallas, TX, and then defeating the Crimson Tide in week 10 in Tuscaloosa, AL. The ONLY purpose of the BCS rankings system is to decide which two teams should play each other in the BCS National Championship Game. Though neither Alabama nor Oregon are currently ranked #2 in the polls, there is a good chance one of them will take that spot if the current #2 Oklahoma State Cowboys lose a game. The Cowboys still have to play the #5 Oklahoma Sooners in the last game of the season, and many experts seem to believe the Sooners are going to win that game. One of the biggest obstacles facing the Ducks and the Tide is the fact they both have already faced LSU and lost. Historically, the voters in the BCS have frowned upon the idea of a rematch. This is one of the beauties of college football...you only get one shot at a team each year and each week of the season is a de facto playoff. If you win, then you are still in the hunt for a shot at the 2012 BCS National Championship Game. A loss, on the other hand, eliminates or comes close to eliminating your team from getting that shot. Therefore, under this logic, Oregon and Alabama's loss to LSU should have eliminated both of them from being able to go to the title game.If LSU remains undefeated and wins the SEC Championship Game, Oklahoma State loses to Oklahoma, and who plays in the national championship versus LSU comes down to a decision between Oregon and Alabama (assuming Oklahoma doesn't jump them to grab the #2 slot), who deserves a shot for a rematch? Here is my breakdown of each side's argument...Alabama's argument for why they should get the rematch with LSUThe Tide is undefeated in regulation, but Oregon is not.Bama lost the game to LSU, while Oregon was defeated by the Tigers. Bama lost nine to six in overtime, but the game should have been put away by Bama in regulation. The Tide, however, missed 3 field goals which would have given them the win 15-6. Had the Tide made only one of those three missed attempts, then they would have won the game. The Ducks, on the other hand, were clearly outmatched as even their Coach Chip Kelly stated they neither have nor face the type of athletes LSU has on their team. The Ducks were dominated 40 to 27, scoring 7 junk points at the end of the game versus LSU's backups on defense. The Bama defense completely shut down LSU's offense allowing them to gain only 239 total yards (148 rushing and 91 passing) and a total of six points in regulation. As previously noted, the Tigers were able to hang 40 points on Oregon. Alabama has a tougher schedule than the Ducks: the Tide has already played against two current top ten teams and two other ranked teams. They still have to face at least one more ranked opponent, and could face its 3rd top ten opponent if they make it to the SEC Championship. The combined record of Bama's opponents is 71-49 and Oregon's is 62-58. Oregon's argument for why they should get the rematch with LSUThe Ducks will win the PAC 12 Championship, but Alabama will not if LSU remains undefeated because they won't be allowed to even play in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta, GA. Winning your conference should be a prerequisite for getting into the BCS Championship Game. Though it currently is not required by rule, it will be on the mind's of voters and they should take into account that it makes no sense to win a National Title but not your Conference's title in the same season. The Ducks were able to actually score a descent amount of points, including three touchdowns, against LSU. The Ducks scored a total of 27 points, but Bama was only able to put up six points with the extra opportunity in overtime.Alabama lost at home and the Ducks lost on the road. Technically, the LSU vs Oregon game was a "neutral" site, however, Baton Rouge is only 443 miles or a six and a half hour drive away from Dallas. Eugene, in contrast, is 2,047 miles and a 33 hour drive away from Dallas by car. The game was in actuality a de facto home game for LSU, which was clearly reflected in the 70% to 30% pro-LSU crowdThe Ducks played LSU in the first week of the season and have improved dramatically since that game. Alabama, on the other hand, got to play them in the tenth week. It is universally accepted that teams do not play their best football in the first couple of weeks in a season, and that the most improvement a team makes between two weeks of a college football season occurs between the first and the second week. The Ducks didn't get the chance to "season" before playing LSU, and the Tide did. By the time Bama played LSU in week 10, they should have been playing the best football they will this season. The Ducks had a lot of first time starters and would have benefited immensely if those guys were able to get nine games under their belt before playing the #1 team in the nation. This is how I see the argument breaking down between both sides. One other major factor to be considered by voters is who they think is the better team between the Ducks and the Tide. Personally, I think Oregon and the PAC 12 would once again be embarrassed if the Ducks were to play the Tide. Alabama's defense is currently on pace to set a record for having the best total defense in the entire history of college football. Not only are they on pace to set the record, but they are on pace to destroy it by only giving up an average of 181 yards per game, approximately 40 yards less than the greatest total defense in history. Well, that's my opinion. If you have anything you would like me to add to either argument, please leave me a comment below. If I agree with your argument/point, then I'll add it to the blog.
