A Federal Judge in Missouri has allowed for a case brought by the KKK against the state of Missouri to proceed by rejecting to dismiss it as the State had wished. The KKK alleges in their lawsuit that they have been denied their right to free speech as the State made insurance requirements unobtainable for their rental and use on April 14, 2010 of a pavilion at the Fort Davidson Historic Site.
I know the Constitution guarantees all Americans the right to free speech, but it shouldn't guarantee the right for hate speech. That is all the KKK is, and that is its only purpose.
Why can't we do like Germany and completely annex our racist and unacceptable past and make it illegal to be in the KKK? In Germany, one cannot even question the Holocaust, let alone attempt to create a modern Nazi based party or movement. They will go to prison. Germany is a democracy just like the US. However, it has made the conscious decision to show its sorrow and willingness to make sure it's countries history cannot be repeated.
How come we don't do the same? Why don't we protect and let our fellow Black Americans feel as comfortable, wanted, and as an integral part of our nation as they are and always have been? Instead, we allow these bigots to roam around and at least pretend to intimidate Black Americans.
In my opinion, it is time we erased the KKK from existance and made a true amends with our horrific past. As long as we let these nostalgic relics dwell amongst us freely, they will hod us captive to our ashamed past. What do you think, should the KKK be allowed to hold rallies in historic sites?
